Login and security

Everything about how you get into your account lives in one place: Account settingsLogin & security.

How signing in works

Famlo does not need a password. On the sign-in screen you enter your email address and receive a six-digit code, and that code signs you in.

That is the default, and for most people it is the only method they ever use. There is nothing to remember and nothing to reset.

You can add other ways in alongside it:

MethodWhere it comes from
Email codeAlways available
PasskeyYour device's fingerprint, face, or screen lock
Google, Facebook, or AppleA connected account
PasswordOptional, set under Login

Any of these gets you in. Adding one does not switch the others off.

note

Famlo does not offer authenticator-app two-factor sign-in, and does not require it for any role. Passkeys are the strongest option available, and they are stronger than a password plus a code, because a passkey cannot be phished or reused on another site.

Adding a passkey

A passkey ties your account to a device you already unlock — Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, or your phone's screen lock. You sign in by unlocking the device.

  1. Open Account settingsLogin & security.
  2. Under Passkeys, select the option to add one.
  3. Your device asks you to confirm with your fingerprint, face, or screen lock.
  4. Give the passkey a name you will recognise later, such as "MacBook" or "iPhone".

Once you have one, the sign-in screen offers Continue with a passkey before it asks for anything else.

Add a passkey on each device you use regularly. If you lose a device, remove its passkey from this page and the rest keep working.

Social accounts

Under Social accounts you can connect or disconnect Google, Facebook, and Apple. Connecting one adds it as a way to sign in.

You can disconnect an account whenever you like, as long as it is not the only way into your account. Famlo will not let you remove your last remaining sign-in method.

Setting or changing a password

A password is optional. If you want one, set it under Login.

If you have a password and forget it, choose Use a password instead on the sign-in screen, then Forgot your password?. The reset link is valid for 15 minutes. If it expires, request another.

You do not need a password to recover your account. The email code always works.

Changing your email address

Your email address lives under Personal information, and changing it sends a six-digit code to the new address to confirm you can receive mail there.

No password is required. Until you confirm the code, your old address keeps working, so a typo cannot lock you out.

Device history

Device history lists everywhere your account is currently signed in, with when each session started.

Look through it if something feels wrong. Sign out any device you do not recognise, or sign out everywhere at once, which ends every session except the one you are using.

Signing a device out does not change your password or remove a passkey. If you think someone else has had access, sign the device out and remove any passkey you do not recognise.
