Your profile and preferences

Your name, photo and contact details live in Account settings › Personal information. How Famlo looks and the time zone it shows dates in live next door, in Preferences. Anyone with a Famlo account can change these at any time, and organizers use the same account settings as families.

Open your personal information

  1. Select your avatar at the top right, then Account settings.
  2. Select Personal information (1).

Each row has its own Edit link (or Add, if it's empty). Select it, make your change, then select Save. Cancel closes the row without saving. Done at the top right takes you out of Account settings.

The page has five rows:

RowWhat it holds
Profile photoYour own photo, so organizers recognize you.
Legal nameFirst name and Last name. "Make sure this matches the name on your ID."
Email addressThe address you sign in with and where Famlo emails you. It's partly hidden on screen.
Phone number"Organizers use this to reach you about an activity your family is booked into."
Where you liveCity and State. Famlo doesn't ask for a street address.

Your children's details, such as allergies, emergency contacts and their photos for organizers, are kept on the Family page, not here. See Your family and children.

Change your email address

Your email address is how you sign in, so Famlo checks the new one before switching to it. You don't need your password.

  1. In Personal information, select Edit next to Email address (2 in the picture above).
  2. Type your New email address (1).
  3. Select Send code (2). Famlo emails a six-digit code to the new address.
  4. Enter the code and select Confirm. The code expires in 10 minutes. If it didn't arrive or has run out, select Send a new code.
The Email address row open, with the New email address field and the Send code button highlightedThe Email address row open, with the New email address field and the Send code button highlighted

When it works, you'll see "Your email address is now …" with your new address. From then on, sign-in codes and notifications go to the new address.

Until you confirm, nothing changes. Your old address keeps working for signing in. While Famlo waits, the email row shows a Pending label and "Waiting on confirmation from" the new address, with two links:

  • Enter code reopens the code box.
  • Cancel change drops the new address and keeps your current one.

A change you never confirm drops away by itself after 24 hours. To try again after that, start over with Edit.

Famlo tells your old address. Once the change goes through, Famlo emails your previous address with the subject "Your Famlo email address was changed". If you didn't make the change, act on that email straight away: reply to it, or open a ticket at famlo.co/support. Replying to this email opens a support ticket.

Add or change your profile photo

  1. In Personal information, select Upload (or Change if you already have a photo) next to Profile photo.
  2. Choose a photo from your device.
  3. Drag the photo to position it inside the frame, then select Finish.

Your photo saves as soon as you finish. You can use JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or HEIC photos (HEIC is the iPhone's usual format) up to 10 MB. To take your photo off, select Remove, then confirm "Remove your profile photo?"

This is your own photo. A child's photo for organizers is added on that child's page in Family.

Your name, phone number and where you live

Legal name. Use your real first and last name, as they appear on your ID. Your name also prints on the homeschool records you make in Famlo, such as transcripts and diplomas.

Phone number. Add a number organizers can call about an activity your family is booked into. Famlo doesn't send texts to it.

Where you live. Choose your City and State. Famlo uses them in a few places:

  • Your city and state print on the homeschool records you make in Famlo, such as transcripts, diplomas and school profiles.
  • Your state picks the state shown in Homeschool tools (state guide, letter of intent, funding) on the phone version of Account settings. The Set your state or Change state link there opens this row.
  • Your state decides whether Famlo reminds you on your Home page about your state's letter of intent.

To find activities near you, Discover uses your approximate location or the place you pick with Set location or Change, not the city saved here. See Finding activities.

Why organizers don't see everything

The note at the bottom of Personal information answers this: "We hide some contact details until a booking is confirmed. Organizers only ever see what they need to run the activity your family signed up for."

In practice:

  • An organizer sees your contact details once your family has a confirmed booking with them, so they can reach you about that activity.
  • Your children's health and safety details are kept on the Family page and have their own rules. Your family and children explains who sees what.

Choose light or dark mode

  1. Open Account settings › Preferences.
  2. Under Appearance (1), choose System, Light or Dark.
The Preferences page with the System, Light and Dark choices highlighted under Appearance, and the Edit link beside Time zone highlightedThe Preferences page with the System, Light and Dark choices highlighted under Appearance, and the Edit link beside Time zone highlighted

The change applies straight away; there's nothing to save. System follows your device's own light or dark setting. Appearance "Applies to this device. Your other devices keep their own setting.", so set it on each phone or computer you use. You can also switch it from Appearance in the avatar menu.

Set your time zone

Famlo shows "Activity start times, booking confirmations and reminder emails" in your time zone. "Organizers set their own, so an activity in another zone is converted to yours."

By default the row reads "Automatic — using your device's time zone". To pick one yourself:

  1. Open Account settings › Preferences.
  2. Select Edit next to Time zone (2).
  3. Choose your zone from the list, then select Save.

To go back to automatic, choose Use my device's time zone and save.

Troubleshooting

The code for my new email address never arrived. Check the spam or junk folder of the new address, and check that you typed it correctly. Select Send a new code, or Cancel change and start again with the right address. If you ask for codes too many times in a few minutes, you'll see "Too many requests. Please try again in a few minutes."

It says "That code isn't right, or it has expired. Request a new one." Codes last 10 minutes and only the newest one works. Select Send a new code and use the code from the latest email.

It says the new address "can't be used". That address can't be moved onto your account. Try a different address. If you think you have a second Famlo account under it, contact support.

My photo won't upload. Photos must be under 10 MB and a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or HEIC file. If you see "That file isn't an image we can use. Try a JPG or PNG.", save the photo as a JPG and try again.

Activity times look an hour or more off. Check Preferences › Time zone. If it's set to a zone you're no longer in, choose your current zone or Use my device's time zone.
