- For everyone
Signing in and creating your account
Famlo uses one screen for both: enter your email at famlo.co/login and Famlo sends you a six-digit code. If you already have an account, the code signs you in. If you don't, it starts a new, free account. You need to be 18 or older to have an account; children don't get their own logins.
Log in or sign up with an emailed code
- On famlo.co, open the menu and select Log in or sign up (on a phone, tap Log in in the bar at the bottom), or go straight to famlo.co/login.
- Type your address in Email (1).
- Select Continue (2). Famlo emails you a code.
- Open the email. Its subject is "Your Famlo confirmation code is" followed by the six digits.
- On Confirm it's you, type the six digits into the boxes (1).
- Select Continue (2).
If you already have an account, you're now signed in. If you're new, Famlo asks for a few details next (see the next section).
About the code:
- It works for 10 minutes, and you get 5 tries at typing it.
- If it doesn't arrive, check your spam folder, then select Send a new code under "Didn't get it?". Sending a new code cancels the old one.
- A wrong or expired code shows "That code isn't right, or it has expired. Request a new one."
- If you ask for too many codes in a short time, you'll see "Too many attempts. Please wait a few minutes and try again."
- Try another way (3) lets you use a passkey or your password instead (see Other ways in).
The first screen looks the same whether or not an address has an account, so nobody can use it to find out who is on Famlo.
Create your account (first time only)
After you confirm the code for a new address, you'll see Let's create your account, with the line "You're signing up as" and your email.
- Fill in First name and Last name.
- Choose a Password. It needs at least 8 characters. Very common passwords, and passwords that have shown up in a data breach on another website, are refused. You can always sign in with an emailed code instead.
- If you'd like news from Famlo, tick "Email me occasional updates from Famlo — new activities near me, and product news. Unsubscribe anytime." It is unticked unless you choose it.
- Select Agree and continue. This confirms you are 18 or older and agree to Famlo's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Finish this screen within about 30 minutes of entering your code. After that, start again from famlo.co/login.
Everyone belongs here
Next comes the Community Commitment: "I will treat everyone in this community — every family, every leader, and every child — with respect, and without judgment or bias."
- Select Agree and continue to finish. You'll see "Welcome to Famlo! Your account is ready." and Famlo sends you a welcome email.
- Select Decline if you don't want to agree. Famlo asks "Declining removes the account you just created. Continue?" If you continue, the account is deleted.
If you were in the middle of a checkout when you signed up, Famlo takes you straight back to it and skips this screen.
The Welcome back screen
When a browser has been used to sign in to Famlo, it remembers you for 45 days, even after you log out. Instead of the email field you'll see Welcome back with your first name and a partly hidden email address.
- Select Log in to have a code sent to that address. Then continue from step 4 above.
- If you've used a passkey on this browser, the screen leads with the passkey button, with Email me a code instead below it.
- Select Not you? to make the browser forget you and bring back the empty email field. Do this on a shared or borrowed computer.
The Welcome back screen can't sign anyone in by itself. A code still goes only to your inbox.
Other ways in
Passkey, Touch ID or Windows Hello
If you've added a passkey (see Login and security), you can sign in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN. The button sits under Continue, after "or". Its name depends on your device:
| Device | Button |
|---|---|
| Mac | Continue with Touch ID |
| Windows | Continue with Windows Hello |
| iPhone, iPad and others | Continue with a passkey |
The button only appears on a device that can use a passkey. Your browser may also offer a saved passkey when you tap the Email field.
Google, Facebook or Apple
Below the passkey button are Continue with Google, Continue with Facebook and Continue with Apple (they aren't in the picture at the top of this page). On a wide screen they show as three icons.
- No Famlo account yet: the first time you use one of these, Famlo creates an account with the email that Google, Facebook or Apple shares, and shows the Everyone belongs here screen.
- You already have an account with that email: Google and Apple connect to it automatically. Facebook doesn't. You'll see "An account already exists for" your email; sign in with your code or password first, then connect Facebook in Login and security.
- The provider shares no email: Famlo can't sign you in that way. Use your email instead.
- Apple's Hide My Email: your Famlo account uses Apple's private relay address, not your real one. It won't connect to an account you made with your real email.
- An account made this way has no password. You can still sign in with an emailed code, or set a password later.
Use a password instead
- On Log in or sign up, select Use a password instead.
- On Enter your password, fill in Email and Password.
- Select Continue.
From there, Forgot your password? sends a reset link, and Email me a sign-in code instead takes you back to the code. A wrong password shows "Try another email address or password."
Try another way
On Confirm it's you, select Try another way for two options: Use a passkey ("If you set one up on this device") and Enter your password. The passkey row shows only on a device that can use one.
Signing up from an activity page
On some free activities you can skip this page entirely. Type your email in the card, select Remind me the day before, and confirm with the six-digit code. That signs you up for the activity and makes a free Famlo account in one go, with no password. See RSVP to a free activity.
Signing in on an organization's own website
Some organizations have their own website that takes bookings through Famlo. Selecting Parent portal or Sign in there opens a Famlo page titled Sign in with Famlo, dressed in that organization's look. Every way in on this page works there too, and the same Famlo account works on every organization's website. See Organizations with their own website.
Where you land
- Signing in: the page you were trying to reach, or your Dashboard (Home on a phone).
- A brand-new account: where you were headed (an activity, a checkout, an invitation). If you were just browsing, you land on Home with a Getting started checklist. See Your Home page.
- Signed up to accept a staff invitation: that organization's console. See Your console and Today.
Invitations from organizations sent to your address are accepted when you create your account with it, as long as the invitation is less than 30 days old. For an older one, ask the organization to send it again.
How long you stay signed in
You stay signed in on a device until you go 30 days without using Famlo there, or for a year at most. Then you sign in again.
When you sign in from a device or place your account hasn't used before, Famlo emails you "Did you just sign in to Famlo?" with a Review my account button. If it wasn't you, change your password right away.
Log out
- On a computer: open the avatar menu (your picture, top right) and select Log out.
- On a phone: open Account settings, scroll to the bottom and select Log out. Confirm "Log out of Famlo on this device?"
Logging out signs out only the device you're on. To sign out other devices, use Device history in Login and security. On a shared computer, also select Not you? on the next sign-in screen so it stops greeting you by name.
Troubleshooting
The code never arrived. Check spam and any "Promotions" or "Updates" tab, make sure the address on Confirm it's you is spelled right, then select Send a new code. Only the newest code works.
"That code isn't right, or it has expired." Codes last 10 minutes and allow 5 tries. Ask for a new one and use it straight away.
"Too many attempts. Please wait a few minutes and try again." You asked for or tried codes too many times in a short time. Wait a few minutes, then try once more.
"Check that address. Gmail ignores dots, so try typing it without them." Famlo spotted an unusual Gmail address. Type it without the extra dots.
"This account is scheduled for deletion, so it can't be signed in to." The confirmation email you got when you asked to delete the account has a link to cancel it. See Download your data or delete your account.
