Reading an activity page

Every class, field trip, park day and event on famlo.co has its own activity page. On it, the booking card shows the price, lets you make your choices and holds the one button that tells you what you can do next. This page explains each part of the card, every label the button can show, and the tools around it.

The booking card, top to bottom

On a computer the booking card sits on the right and stays in view as you scroll. (On a phone it works differently. See On a phone.)

A booking card showing $28.86 per person, Includes booking fee, the Option and Children fields, an Add Materials Kit checkbox, the Register button, You won't be charged yet, the Total and the refund lineA booking card showing $28.86 per person, Includes booking fee, the Option and Children fields, an Add Materials Kit checkbox, the Register button, You won't be charged yet, the Total and the refund line

The price. Every price you see already includes everything you'll pay. Paid bookings include a booking fee of 3.7% of the price plus $1.79 a ticket, plus the cost of processing your payment. When the fee applies, the line Includes booking fee sits under the price. Some organizations pay the fee for you, and then that line isn't there. For the full story, see What families pay.

  • The words beside the price say what it buys, such as "per person", "per hour" or "for all 10 sessions".
  • From above the price means the options cost different amounts, and this is the lowest.
  • A weekly class may add a line such as what one session works out to, or the price "for the term".
  • A free activity shows Free and "No cost to attend".

The fields. Only the ones that apply to this activity appear:

FieldWhat it's for
SectionThe class is split into groups, for example by age. Pick one and the whole card, including the dates and price, switches to that group. Under it: "Booking children of different ages? Each one is matched to their own section at checkout."
SessionFor anything that meets more than once: the days and dates, then the time and the number of sessions.
OptionThe ways to join and their prices, such as a standard and a sibling ticket. When there's no dropdown, up to four options are listed under the price, then "N more options at checkout."
DateShown when you choose the "Just one date" option of a weekly class. A full date is listed but can't be picked. A note below names the other option, such as the whole term.
HoursFor options charged by the hour.
ChildrenHow many places you want, up to 10, or fewer when fewer spots are left.

Add-ons. Extras such as a materials kit show as checkboxes, each with Add and its name, and its price beside it.

"N attending". How many people have booked so far, with a few small profile pictures of the parents who booked. No names are shown.

You won't be charged yet and Total. The total changes as you pick an option, children, hours and add-ons. Nothing is charged until you finish checkout, and checkout checks your choices again.

The refund line. The organization's refund terms, for example "Full refund any time before the first class." If the organization hasn't chosen terms, it reads: "The organizer hasn't set a refund policy, so Famlo's default applies: a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before it starts."

Your scholarship. If an organization has given you a scholarship you can use on this class, a green box shows the crossed-out price and your price, with "From your … scholarship. Only you see this; other families see the regular price." Some organizations also show Need help paying? Request a scholarship. See Scholarships from an organization.

To book from the card:

  1. Choose an Option (1), if there's more than one.
  2. Set Children (2) to the number of places you need.
  3. Check any add-ons you want (3).
  4. Select Register (4). Checkout opens with your choices filled in.

The rest happens at checkout. See Registering and checking out. What each way to join means (sections, single dates, packs and more) is in Sections, single dates, packs and other ways to join.

What the button says

The button changes with the activity and with you. These are all its labels:

ButtonWhen you see it
This Event Has Passed (grayed out)The activity has started and isn't taking bookings any more.
Registration closed, with "Started date", and Save it on FamloA class that has started and isn't taking new families or selling single dates. Save it to keep it in your Saved list and hear by email if the organization runs it again next term. Once saved, the button reads Saved.
Register for the class, with "Class is sold as a whole class, not by the date."You're on the page for one date of a class that's sold only as a whole. The button takes you to the class. If the class is closed, you see a short note instead of a button.
Not open for registration (grayed out)There's nothing on sale to join right now.
Ask about a spotThe organization can't take payments on Famlo at the moment. See the next section.
Remind me the day beforeYou're signed out, on some free listings. It makes a free account and books your RSVP in one step. See RSVP to a free activity.
Sign In to Register / Sign In to RSVPYou're signed out. Sign in, or create a free account, to continue.
You're goingYou've booked. See After you book.
Join the waitlist / You're on the waitlistThe activity is full. Joining saves it, and you're alerted when a spot opens. See Saved activities and the waitlist.
RSVPA free activity. When there's nothing to choose, you RSVP right on the page. Otherwise it opens checkout. See RSVP to a free activity.
RegisterA paid activity. It opens checkout.

Class pages on an organization's own website work a little differently. See Booking and buying on an organization's website.

When the organization takes payment directly

Sometimes an organization lists a paid activity but can't take payments on Famlo yet. The card then says "Organization takes payment directly" and "Not through Famlo right now. Ask about a spot and they'll answer you here — we won't take your money for this one."

  • Select Ask about a spot to send the organization a message. If you're signed out, you sign in first ("You'll sign in so they can reply to you").
  • Under Or reach them directly you may see the organization's email address or website.
  • The organization replies in Messages. You arrange the place and the payment with them, and there's no booking fee.

Listings that take registration elsewhere

Some listings come from organizations that keep their own registration list, such as libraries. The page then shows "Organization takes registration on their own site", explains that your Famlo RSVP saves the date and reminds you but doesn't hold a spot, and offers Check availability at their site.

  1. Select RSVP and check "I'll check with Organization — Famlo can't hold my spot".
  2. Select Confirm RSVP. The card shows You're going with a two-step box: Save it on Famlo is crossed off, and the second step reads Get a place with Organization.
  3. Select Check availability at their site and register with them. "The link is in your confirmation email too."

The day after, Famlo emails you to ask "Do you have a place for activity?" There's no booking fee on these listings.

After you book

Once you've booked, the card shows You're going and how many spots are reserved, with the child's name when you named one.

  • Cancel registration opens the cancel screen, where you can see what you'll get back before you confirm. See Cancelling and refunds.
  • Cancel RSVP appears instead for a free one-tap RSVP. It cancels straight away.
  • Add to calendar opens a box with two choices.
The Add to calendar box with two choices: Just this event and Everything you RSVP toThe Add to calendar box with two choices: Just this event and Everything you RSVP to
ChoiceWhat it does
Just this event"Downloads a file. It won't update if the details change."
Everything you RSVP to"Subscribe once. New RSVPs appear on their own, and changes follow." It shows your private calendar link, Add to my calendar app and Setup instructions for Apple, Google and Outlook.

If your calendar link is switched off, you see Turn on my calendar feed instead. Keep the link private: anyone with it can see your calendar. For more, see How Do I Export My Calendar to Google or Apple?.

Share and embed

Select Share next to the title to open Share this activity. Its tiles are Copy Link, Email, Messages, WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, X and Embed, plus More options when your browser has its own share menu.

The Share this activity box with the Copy Link, Email, Messages, WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Embed and More options tilesThe Share this activity box with the Copy Link, Email, Messages, WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Embed and More options tiles

Embed gives you code to show the activity as a card on another website, such as a group's blog:

  1. Select Embed. The box changes to Embed this activity.
  2. Under Customize your code, check Hide the price or Create "no follow" links if you want them. The preview updates.
  3. Select Copy HTML and paste it into the other website.

The card shows the photo, title, details, price (or Free) and a View on Famlo link, and nothing about you. Select Go back to return to the tiles.

Where you'll be, and the badges

Where you'll be, lower on the page, shows the place name, room, address and a map. Get directions opens Google Maps, or Apple Maps on an iPhone or iPad. When a listing gives only a city, you see "Approximate — this listing gives a city, not a street address." and no directions link. A class whose sections meet in different places shows each place. Online activities have no map.

Badges on the photo give you a quick status:

BadgeMeaning
Event Today!It's happening today.
Starts tomorrow / Starts in N daysIt's coming up within a week.
Almost FullFew spots left: 5 or fewer when the activity holds 50 or fewer people, or 10% or less of the places when it holds more.
FullNo spots left. The button offers the waitlist.
Past EventIt has already taken place.

On a phone

On a phone there's no booking card. A bar at the bottom of the screen shows the price and the button, and some labels are shorter: Sign In, See the class, Remind me and, on listings that take registration elsewhere, Now get a place. You choose the option, children and add-ons at checkout. Share is the icon at the top right, and it opens your phone's own share menu. Add to calendar isn't on the phone bar. Use the subscribe link in your confirmation email, or Calendar, instead.

Troubleshooting

The total on the card is different at checkout. Checkout uses what you actually pick there, for each child, including any promo code, scholarship or credit. The card is a starting point.

I don't see Includes booking fee. The organization pays the fee for you, the activity is free, or the organization takes payment or registration somewhere else.

The Children field won't go higher. It stops at 10, or at the number of spots left. One order can register up to 10 people, and checkout's Add another attendee stops at 10 too. To register more, place a second order.

I booked but the card still says Register. Make sure you're signed in to the account you booked with. Your bookings are also on your calendar.
