Enrolling in a program

A program is an activity where you choose which days each child comes, and the organization bills you every month on the 1st. This page covers enrolling, what you pay, changing days and giving notice when you want to leave. You need to be signed in and have a saved card to enroll.

What a program is

Some organizations run things like forest school days, learning days or after-school care as a program. Instead of buying a whole term up front, you:

  • choose the days of the week each child comes, for example Monday and Thursday;
  • pay a monthly price that depends on how many days a week, for example $322.55 a month for 2 days a week, with the booking fee already in it;
  • are billed by the organization on the 1st of each month until the program ends or you give notice;
  • leave by giving notice, which the organization sets (for example 30 days).

You enroll once and the program keeps running. You can change days later from your account.

Enroll in a program

On the program's activity page, select Register. Famlo opens the program's enrollment page, headed Confirm registration.

  1. Under Who's registering?, each child has their own card (Attendee 1, Attendee 2 and so on). Check the child under Who's coming.
  2. Under Days, check the days that child will come (1). The line under the days shows that child's price, for example "2 days a week · $322.55 a month", followed by every option the program offers. These prices include the booking fee.
  3. Repeat for each child you're enrolling. Children can come on different days.
  4. Read the line under the cards. It shows any registration fee and the notice the program asks for, for example "Registration fee $50 plus a booking fee, once. Leaving needs 30 days' notice; you pay through the end of that month." When the organization pays the booking fee, "plus a booking fee" isn't there.
  5. Under Pay with, choose a saved card (2).
  6. Check the summary, then select the button (3). It reads Pay $… today when something is due now, or Confirm registration when nothing is.

When it's done, you're taken back to the activity page with a note such as "You're enrolled. Ella: Mondays and Thursdays." You also get an email, "You're enrolled in [program]".

A few things you might see on this page:

  • A child who is already enrolled isn't offered again. Instead you see "[Name] is already enrolled — see their days."
  • If your family has no children added, the page reads "Enrolling yourself." Select Add a child to your family first if you want to enroll a child.
  • If you enroll several children and one can't be enrolled (for example, a day just filled), the note tells you who is enrolled and who isn't, and that nothing was charged for anyone it stopped before.
note

Choose every child at the same time if you can. Children on the same days share one enrollment. Children on different days each get their own, all paid with the same card.

What you pay and when

The summary on the right shows:

LineWhat it means
[Month] tuitionYour first month. If you join partway through a month, the organization decides whether this is a share of the month, the whole month, or nothing until the 1st. The line says which, for example "October tuition · prorated".
Registration feeA fee some programs charge. It is either one-time or yearly, and the line says which.
Booking feeThe booking fee on your first month and any registration fee. It doesn't appear when the organization pays the fee for you.
Due todayWhat your card is charged when you enroll, booking fee included.
Then on the 1st of each monthYour regular monthly payment, booking fee included.

After that, the organization bills your card on the 1st of each month. Its name is on your card statement.

The booking fee. Each monthly payment also carries Famlo's booking fee, as its own Booking fee line on each invoice, unless the organization pays it for you. The fee is 3.7% of the price plus $1.79 for each child, plus the cost of processing your payment. Every amount on the enrollment page, including the Pay $… today button, already includes it, and so does the monthly amount on your program's page in Account settings. See What families pay for the full explanation.

If your bank or payment needs checking

  • Confirm with your bank. Some cards need an extra check from your bank. A box titled Confirm with your bank appears. Follow your bank's prompt and keep the page open. Your place is held while you do this. If the check isn't finished, nothing is charged.
  • We're confirming your payment. Sometimes Famlo can't tell straight away whether a payment went through. You then see "We're confirming your payment with Stripe. Your place is held — please don't pay again; we'll email you as soon as Stripe confirms." Don't enroll again. You'll get either "You're enrolled in [program]" or "Your [program] enrollment didn't go through".

Find your program in your account

Every program you've enrolled in is listed in your account.

  1. Open your picture in the top corner and select Account settings.
  2. Select Memberships.
  3. Under Programs, select the program.

Each row shows the program, your children's names and the organization. Once you've given notice, it also shows "· leaving [date]".

The program's page shows your days and monthly price, for example "Mon + Wed · $322.55 a month", and "Next payment Nov 1 · Visa ending 4242". From here you can change days (1), give notice (2) or update your card (3).

Change days

You can switch to different days, or more or fewer days a week. The change starts at your next billing period. Until then your child keeps their current days and you pay what you pay now.

  1. On the program's page, select Change days.
  2. Under "Which days will [child] come?", check the new days.
  3. Select Review change. Famlo shows what changes, for example "From Nov 1: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, $420 a month." and "Nothing extra is charged and nothing is refunded."
  4. Select Change to [N] days a week.

While the change is waiting, the page shows "Changing to … on [date]". To call it off, select Keep my current days.

If a day you asked for fills up before the change starts, your days stay as they were and so does your price. You get an email, "Your [program] days didn't change", and the program's page says why.

You can't change days after you've given notice, or after the organization has ended your enrollment.

Give notice to leave

When you want to stop, give notice from the program's page. You pay through the end of the month your notice ends in, and your child keeps coming until then.

  1. On the program's page, select Give notice.
  2. Read the dates Famlo works out for you (see the table below).
  3. Optionally, add a note under "Anything to tell [organization]?".
  4. Select Give notice. If you'd rather stay, select Keep [child] enrolled.

DateHow it's worked out
Notice endsToday plus the program's notice period. With 30 days' notice given on October 10, notice ends on November 9.
Paid throughThe last day of the month your notice ends in, so November 30 in that example. If the program finishes earlier, it's the program's last day.
Last day (or "[child]'s last day")Your child's last session on their days, on or before the paid-through date.
Last paymentThe payment on the 1st of that month. Nothing is charged after it.

After you give notice, the page shows Notice given with the last day, the last payment, and "Then: No more payments". The organization is told.

If you give notice while a change of days is waiting, the change is dropped and your child leaves on their current days.

Cancel your notice

Changed your mind? Until your notice period ends, the page shows Changed your mind? Cancel notice and the date you can do it by ("You can cancel notice until [date]"). Select it and your enrollment carries on as before. After that date, the notice stands.

When the organization ends your enrollment

An organization can end an enrollment itself. The program's page then reads, for example, "Sunnyside Learning Co. has ended this enrollment: Max keeps coming, and you pay, through Nov 30. Nothing after that." You don't need to give notice, and you can't change days. If you have questions, message the organization.

Update your card

Each program has its own card. Changing the card on your Payment methods page doesn't change it.

  1. On the program's page, select Update your card.
  2. Enter the new card.
  3. If you have other programs or payment plans, leave Use this card for my other payments too checked to use it for those as well.
  4. Select Save card.

Your card details go straight to Stripe, the payment processor. The organization never sees them.

If a payment didn't go through

A failed payment never takes your child's place away. You get an email, "Your [program] payment didn't go through", with an Update your card button. Stripe tries your card again a few times over the following week. The Update your card page shows what didn't go through and when, and offers two buttons:

  • Save card and pay $… now pays the missed amount straight away.
  • Save card, try it next time saves the card for the next attempt.

Emails about your program

These come in the organization's name, and replies usually go to the organization.

EmailWhen
"You're enrolled in [program]"You enrolled, or a payment Famlo was checking was confirmed. It lists who, which days and what you pay, with an Open your program button.
"Your [program] payment didn't go through"A monthly payment failed. Includes Update your card.
"Your [program] days didn't change"A change of days couldn't happen, usually because a day filled.
"Your [program] enrollment didn't go through"A payment Famlo was checking was never taken. Includes Try again.

Troubleshooting

The button at the bottom of the enrollment page is grayed out. You need a saved card. The page says "You'll need a saved card to enroll. Add one from your account, then come back." Add a card under Account settings › Payment methods, then open the program again. See How do I update my payment method?.

It says "There's no price for 4 days a week." The program only has prices for certain numbers of days a week, and the message lists them, for example "Choose 1, 2, or 3 days." Check a number of days it offers. If it says "Choose the days for each child.", a child you checked under Who's coming has no days checked yet.

It says the program "isn't taking new families right now" or "Online enrollment for this program isn't open yet". The program isn't accepting online enrollments at the moment. Contact the organization, as the message suggests. You can message them from their organization page.

I don't see Change days or Give notice. After you give notice, only Cancel notice remains. While a change of days is waiting, you see Keep my current days instead of Change days. If the organization has ended your enrollment, neither appears.

It says "It's too late to cancel this notice." Your notice period has ended, so the notice stands. If you want to stay, message the organization.
