Members-only pages and memberships on a website
An organization with its own website can keep some pages for Signed-in families or for Members only. This page explains who can open each kind, what you see when a page is locked, and how to join so you can open it. Paying and managing your membership happen on famlo.co. See Your memberships.
Two kinds of restricted page
| The page says | Who can open it |
|---|---|
| Signed-in families | Anyone signed in on that website with a Famlo account. A Famlo account is free, so these pages aren't private. They're just kept away from search engines and passers-by. |
| Members only | The organization's members, plus the people who run it. |
A lock beside a page's name in the website's menu means the page is restricted. Everyone sees the same lock, members included, so it doesn't tell you whether you can open the page. Not every organization shows the lock.
Restricted pages never appear in search engine results.
Who counts as a member
It depends on whether the organization charges dues.
| The organization… | You're a member when… |
|---|---|
| Charges no dues | You've joined the organization on Famlo. |
| Charges dues | Your membership is active and paid, or the organization is covering it and the cover hasn't ended. |
At an organization that charges dues, these don't count:
- A membership whose last payment failed. You see Update your card instead of the page.
- A request to join that the organization hasn't approved yet.
- Belonging to the organization without an active paid membership. The Parent portal's Membership card shows this as Not active yet.
- A cover from the organization that has ended.
A few more rules:
- Membership belongs to one Famlo account. Sign in with the account you joined with. The website checks the account you're signed in with, not your whole family.
- Each organization counts separately. Being a member at one organization's website doesn't open members-only pages on another organization's website.
What you see on a locked page
When you can't open a page, you see a preview in its place: the Members only or Signed-in families badge, the page's title, and a short description the organization wrote. The real page stays hidden until you're allowed in.
The message depends on the page and on you:
| Situation | What it says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Signed-in families page, you're signed out | "Sign in to see this page" | Select Sign in. |
| Members page, you're signed out | "This page is for [organization] members" and "Join to open [page], or sign in if your family is already a member." | Members: select Sign in. Everyone else: select See membership (1). |
| Members page, you're signed in but not a member | "You're signed in as [name], and that account isn't a member of [organization]." | Check that you used the account you joined with, or join. |
| Your membership payment failed | "Your membership payment didn't go through" and "Update your card to open this page." | Select Update your card. |
If the organization charges dues, a join card appears next to the preview. It shows the price, what members get and the join button. If it charges no dues, the button reads Ask [organization] about joining and opens the website's contact form.
Opening a page you're allowed to see
- Sign in on the organization's website with your Famlo account.
- Open the page from the menu, or open Parent portal and select it on the Member pages card.
A line at the top of the page shows why you can see it, for example "Only [organization] members can see this page" (1), and who you're signed in as.
The Member pages card in the Parent portal lists the restricted pages you can open, each tagged Members or Signed-in families. At an organization that charges dues, it also names the members' pages you can't open yet, with See membership. See Your Parent portal.
Files and photos on these pages
Files and photos on a restricted page are checked each time you open them. Each download link works for 5 minutes, so a forwarded link soon stops working. If your membership ends, the files close along with the page. If you follow a download link while signed out, you're asked to sign in first.
Join from the Membership page
Organizations that charge dues have a Membership link in their website's menu. The page shows the price, what members get and how joining works. Prices already include the booking fee.
How joining works (1) lists the steps for that organization. Below it, Members-only pages on our site (2) lists the pages members can open.
- Open Membership in the website's menu.
- Select Request to join. The button also shows the dues, for example "Request to join · $25 / month". The form opens on famlo.co, in the organization's colors.
- Sign in if asked, then do what the organization asks. That can be agreeing to its rules or answering a few questions, and it always means adding a card.
- Send your request. The organization reviews it.
Your card is charged only once the organization approves you. From then on, the members-only pages open for you. The steps and the booking fee on dues are explained in Your memberships.
For dues that renew, the page says "Change your card or cancel any time from My memberships on Famlo". That link opens My memberships on famlo.co, where you change your card or cancel.
Instead of Request to join, the page may say:
| It says | What it means |
|---|---|
| By invitation only | The organization sends you a link, and you join with your Famlo account. You can select Ask [organization] about joining. |
| Memberships open soon | The organization can't take new members yet. |
| [organization] isn't taking new members | Joining is closed. |
Already a member? Select Open parent portal at the bottom of the page.
Troubleshooting
I'm a member, but the page still says it's for members. Check the name in "You're signed in as …". If it's a different account, sign out of the website and sign in with the account you joined with. If your membership payment failed, select Update your card and add a working card.
My request to join is still pending. The page stays locked until the organization approves you. The Parent portal's Membership card shows Applied and links to See your request.
A file link someone sent me doesn't open. Download links on restricted pages last 5 minutes. Open the page yourself and select the file again.
I'm a member at another organization's website, but this one says I'm not. Membership counts only at the organization you joined. Join this one separately.
