Registering and checking out
Registering takes one screen. A free activity with nothing to choose is booked from the activity page itself. Anything with a price, a ticket choice or an add-on opens checkout, which asks everything on a single page and then charges you once.
The button on an activity page
Every activity carries one call to action, in the sidebar on a wide screen and in the bottom bar on a phone. What it says depends on where you stand.
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| RSVP | The activity is open and you are signed in |
| Sign In to RSVP | Sign in first, then you are returned here |
| You're going | You are already registered |
| Join the waitlist | The activity is full |
| This Event Has Passed | It has already started |
RSVP to a free activity
When an activity is free and has no ticket choice and no add-ons, you never leave the page.
- Select RSVP.
- A small dialog asks How many are coming?
- Choose a number of spots from the list.
- Select Confirm RSVP.
The button area is replaced in place by You're going, with the number of spots below it. If only one spot is left, or the activity allows only one, there is nothing to ask and RSVP books you straight away.
This is a booking for your household. It does not ask you to name individual family members. To register a specific child, the activity has to go through checkout.
Register for a paid activity
Anything with a price, a ticket to choose between, or an optional add-on sends you to checkout, headed Confirm registration. It is one page, top to bottom, with an order summary alongside it that updates as you go.
Nothing is held or reserved while you fill it in. There is no timer and no countdown, and your place is not taken until you submit the form. On a nearly-full activity, submit sooner rather than later.
1. Select tickets
Each ticket row shows its name, its price, how many are left where the organization caps them, and any description. Set a quantity beside the ones you want. A ticket with none left is marked Sold out and cannot be chosen.
2. Add-ons
Add-ons are optional extras such as a materials kit or a meal. They are ordered for the whole registration, not per person, so you set one quantity for each.
Add-ons ride along with a ticket. If the activity sells tickets, choose one before you add extras. Otherwise checkout sends you back with "Please choose a ticket before adding add-ons."
3. Who's attending?
Who's attending? offers one choice, made with a single radio button.
- Whole family registers your household, and is selected by default.
- Selecting a saved family member registers that person by name. Their age is shown, and their allergies if you have recorded any.
You cannot split one order across several named children. To register two children by name, register them one at a time.
If your family profile is empty, the booking is made under your account. A link invites you to add family members for next time.
Beneath the choice sits a note headed "Organizations you join or register with can see this". It explains that the organization's owner, co-leaders and event managers can see the child's profile. That includes their allergies, special needs, medical notes, emergency contact, authorised pickup list and photo-consent answer. Other families cannot.
4. Payment
If anything is due, Payment is where you choose how to pay it.
- With cards saved to your account, a Pay with list appears. Pick one and select Pay now. Expired cards are shown but cannot be selected.
- To use something else, select Use a different card or payment method. That takes you to Stripe's secure checkout.
- With no cards saved, the single button reads Continue to secure checkout and you enter your card details on Stripe.
- If the order comes to nothing after discounts, the button reads Complete free RSVP.
- If the organization has not finished setting up payouts, payment is unavailable and the page tells you to contact them to register.
Your payment goes directly to the organization. They are the merchant of record, and their name is what appears on your statement.
5. Terms
One checkbox covers everything, and it is required. It names the organization and reads: "I agree to their policies and Famlo's Terms of Use and Refund Policy."
The order summary
The summary beside the form lists each ticket and add-on, then works down to the total.
| Line | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Subtotal | Tickets and add-ons before anything is applied |
| Promo code | A field and an Apply button |
| Discount | The promo reduction, if a code is applied |
| Credits applied | Account credit used, applied automatically |
| Platform Fee | Reads "included" — it is never added to your total |
| Total | What you actually pay |
Selecting Apply on a promo code only recalculates the summary. It books nothing.
Scholarships
Scholarship awards are granted in advance by the organization. There is nothing to request at checkout, and no scholarship option on the form.
If you hold an award that covers the activity, Famlo applies it automatically after any promo code and account credit. You pay only what is left. An award that covers the whole cost turns the button into Complete free RSVP.
Scholarship money never passes through Famlo. The organization and your family settle that side directly. See Scholarships for how awards are granted, and Payments and refunds for what this means when you cancel.
Ages
Age ranges on an activity are advice, not a barrier. They exist mainly so you can filter for what fits.
Registering a child outside an activity's stated range does not block the booking. Famlo shows a note naming the child, their age and the activity's range, and the registration goes through. Use your own judgement, and message the organization if you are unsure.
When an activity is full
A full activity has no spots to sell, so instead of registering you save it. The button reads Join the waitlist, and selecting it puts the activity on your saved list. It then reads You're on the waitlist, and a line beneath says how many families are waiting.
Nobody holds a position on the waitlist and no spot is set aside for anyone. When a spot frees up, every family watching that activity is alerted at the same moment, and the first to register takes it. Turn on alerts so you hear about it quickly, and register as soon as you do.
You are told this when you join, and again in the alert itself. The alert email is titled "A spot opened for …".
After you register
The confirmation page reads Booking Confirmed! and shows the activity details, your order summary, and a Confirmation ID to quote if you need help. From there you can open the activity, go to View my bookings, or carry on browsing.
If the payment is still settling, the page reads Payment processing instead and tells you an email follows once it clears.
Famlo also emails you, with the subject "You're registered for …". The activity appears on your calendar, and reminders arrive before it starts.
Changing or cancelling
Bookings can be listed and cancelled. They cannot be edited.
There is no way to add tickets, swap the attendee, or change a quantity on a booking you have already made. To change any of it, cancel and register again — and check the refund preview first, because cancelling inside the refund cutoff returns nothing.
To cancel, open the activity and select Cancel registration. You get a full refund breakdown before you confirm. A free one-tap booking has Cancel RSVP instead and cancels immediately.
See Payments and refunds for what comes back and when.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see the RSVP button. You may be signed out, in which case the button reads Sign In to RSVP. If it says This Event Has Passed the start time has gone by, and if it says Join the waitlist the activity is full.
The button says I am already going. You have an existing booking for this activity. Cancel it before registering differently.
I chose an add-on but cannot continue. The activity sells tickets, and an order cannot be add-ons alone. Set a quantity on a ticket as well.
My promo code was refused. The message under the field says why. Codes can expire, start later, require a minimum order, run out of redemptions, or be limited to one use per family.
My payment failed. Check the card details and the funds available, then try another card. If the same card keeps failing, your bank may be blocking the charge.
The button says payment is unavailable. The organization has not finished setting up payouts. Message them to register another way.
I cannot find my booking. Check Bookings in the account menu and your calendar, and look for the confirmation email. If neither shows it, you may be signed in to a different account.
