Student ID cards and verification

Famlo gives your child a printable student ID card for each organization they attend. The card carries a code that a museum desk or a dual-enrollment office can scan to confirm the enrollment is current. It's free, and you can replace or switch off a card at any time.

Which organizations a card is issued for

There is one card per organization, for one school year. A card says only that one organization recorded your child's enrollment, so a child who attends two co-ops gets two cards.

A card is issued per organization once your child has attended something there and the provider has taken attendance. Until then, the page says "No student ID yet".

The organizations that fill your child's school record under From your Famlo bookings are the ones that get a card. Activities you add yourself never do.

  1. Select Family at the top of famlo.co (on a phone, Family in the bottom bar), then your child.
  2. Select Student ID (1). On a computer it's the last item under your child's name in the left-hand menu. On a phone, open School record and pick Student ID under Documents built from this record.
  3. Select Print or save as PDF (2).
  4. Cut the card out along its edge, and laminate it if you like.

The printout shows just the cards. Each one is credit-card size (CR80, 3.375 × 2.125 inches), so it fits a wallet or a badge holder. If your print window has a scale setting, choose 100% or "Actual size" so the card comes out the right size.

A card shows:

  • the organization, its city and state, and the school year, for example 2026–27;
  • Student, your child's name and Grade;
  • Valid through, a date about a month after the school year ends;
  • "Not a government ID. Acceptance is at the discretion of the verifier.";
  • the code, marked Scan to verify.

There's no photo on the card. The name is the Full name from your child's Basics and the grade is their Grade level (see Your family and children).

The page opens on the latest school year your child has records for. If there's more than one, the years appear at the top of the page. A card from an earlier year stops verifying after its Valid through date.

What a scan shows, and what it hides

Scanning the code opens a page at famlo.co/verify. Whoever scans it doesn't need a Famlo account. The address is also printed under each card on your Student ID page, in case someone needs to type it.

The verification page on a phone: Enrollment verified, Max, Grade 6, enrolled at Sunnyside Learning Co., currently enrolled through Sep 1, 2027The verification page on a phone: Enrollment verified, Max, Grade 6, enrolled at Sunnyside Learning Co., currently enrolled through Sep 1, 2027

A current card shows Enrollment verified, then:

The page says plainly that it is not proof of identity. It confirms that the organization recorded the enrollment on Famlo, not who is holding the card. Anyone who has the card, or a photo of it, can open the page, so treat it like any other ID.

Scanned N times

Once a card has been scanned, your Student ID page shows a count beside its address, for example "scanned 3 times". Only scans of a current card are counted. The count doesn't say who scanned it or where.

When a card isn't current

A scan shows This card is not current and Status "Not current" when:

  • you revoked or reissued the card ("it has been withdrawn by the family");
  • its Valid through date has passed ("out of date since" that date);
  • your child has been removed from your family on Famlo ("it has been withdrawn").

Each time, the page asks the person checking to "Ask for a current one." If the code doesn't match any card, or your account has been closed, the page says "We can't verify this card" and gives no name at all.

Reissue or revoke a card

Beside each card are Reissue (1) and Revoke (2). Both stop the old code verifying straight away.

What Famlo asks"Issue a new card? The code on the current one stops verifying straight away.""Revoke this card? Anyone who scans it will be told the family withdrew it. This cannot be undone."
Afterwards"New card issued. The old code stopped verifying immediately.""That card no longer verifies. Scanning it now shows it was withdrawn."

After either one, scanning the old card shows that the family withdrew it. Neither can be undone.

  • After Reissue, your page shows the new card with a new code. Print it and throw the old one away.
  • After Revoke, there's no new card. Your page shows the organization with Revoked on and the date, and says "No card verifies Max here until you issue a new one." (with your child's name). A revoked card stays revoked, and it isn't included when you print.

A card keeps the name and grade it was issued with. If you change your child's name or grade, select Reissue to get a card with the new details.

Get a card again after revoking

  1. Open your child's Student ID page.
  2. Find the organization marked Revoked on and select Issue a new card.

The new card has a new code, and the old one stays withdrawn.

Troubleshooting

The page says "No student ID yet". Your child doesn't have a record with any organization for this school year yet. Rows from your bookings appear on the school record the day after a class meets. Check the year at the top of the page, too.

An organization I expected isn't there. Cards are only for organizations that appear under From your Famlo bookings on your child's school record for that school year.

The card shows only a first name. The card uses the Full name in your child's Basics. Add their last name there, then select Reissue.

The grade is wrong. Change Grade level in Basics, then select Reissue.

Someone scanned the card and got "This card is not current". The card was revoked or reissued, it's past its Valid through date, or the child has been removed from your family. Open the Student ID page and print the current card. If the page shows Revoked on for that organization, select Issue a new card first.

The printed card is the wrong size. Print again at 100% ("Actual size") instead of fit to page.
