How Do I Make a Homeschool Transcript?
Famlo builds a transcript for each of your children from their school record. Classes you book on Famlo fill the record in on their own, you add the learning you do at home, and you set the grades and credits. It's free, and you need a Famlo account.
1. Let your bookings fill the record
Every child in your family already has a School record. To open it, select Family, choose your child, then select School record. On a phone, tap Family in the bar at the bottom.
Once a night, Famlo adds the classes you booked for that child:
- When the organization takes attendance, sessions marked Present or Late count, and the hours come from each session's times.
- When a paid class has no attendance, Famlo counts the meetings that have already happened from the class's published schedule. These show as scheduled hours, kept apart from hours an organization recorded.
- A weekly class is one line, not one per meeting.
A new class shows up the day after its first meeting, or after the organization takes attendance. An unpaid booking isn't added. More detail: Your child's school record.
2. Add the learning you do at home
Most homeschool learning doesn't happen in a booked class, so add it yourself. The quickest way is a week at a time:
- On your child's school record, select Log a week (1).
- Type the hours for each subject and day, Monday to Friday.
- Select Save week.
Saving adds one line per subject to the record for that week. Classes you booked on Famlo show in a Booked on Famlo row on the grid. They reach the record on their own, so don't log them again. See Log home learning with Log a week.
For a whole course, such as a curriculum you use at home or a class taken somewhere else, select Add a course or activity under Added by you instead. Only Course or activity is required. Use Notes to name the books and materials you used.
3. Add grades and credits
A transcript needs grades and credits on the courses that should count. Famlo never fills these in for you.
- On the school record, select Edit on a course.
- Type a Grade (1), such as A or B+.
- Type a Credit (2). Under the box, Famlo suggests one from the hours at 150 hours per credit, for example "40 hours → 0.27 credit at 150 hours per credit". Use that or your own number.
- Select Save (3).
Good to know:
- Credit is for high school work. The form says to leave it blank below grade 9.
- The GPA is unweighted, on a 4.0 scale. Only courses with both a letter grade and a credit count toward it.
- Pass marks such as P or Pass earn their credit but stay out of the GPA.
- If an organization gave a grade or counted the hours, you can't change them. Ask the organization to correct its record.
- A course you Hide on the record is left off the transcript.
The full rules, including the grading scale, are in Transcripts, diplomas and other documents.
4. Name your homeschool
The transcript's header carries your homeschool's name. Set it once for the whole family:
- Select Family, then Edit.
- Fill Homeschool name, for example "Rivera Home Education".
- Select Save.
If you leave it blank, documents use your last name followed by "Home Education".
The same page has a Your school profile section: Educational philosophy, Curriculum, Assessment and evaluation and Graduation requirements. These go on the School profile, a separate document that explains your transcript to a college admissions office. Fill them in if you'll send one.
Your name, city and state come from Account settings › Personal information.
5. Open the transcript and print it
- Select Family, choose your child, then select Transcript (1). On the school record, the Transcript button at the top opens it too.
- Check the courses, grades, credits, Cumulative GPA and Credits earned.
- Select Print or save as PDF (2).
- In your browser's print window, choose a printer, or choose Save as PDF (or your browser's equivalent) to keep a file.
The transcript covers every school year on record, so a high-school credit earned in 8th grade still shows. Its Record column marks each course IC (instructor confirmed), PR (provider records) or P (parent reported). It ends with a certification line for you to sign as the supervising parent. The menus and buttons around it don't print.
Famlo is record-keeping software and doesn't accredit anything. You issue the transcript as the supervising parent, so check what your state, umbrella school or college asks for.
If you don't have a Famlo account yet
The free Homeschool Records Tool at famlo.co/tools/homeschool-records needs no account. Pick your state to see what it asks you to keep, then add courses and hours to a log that's saved in your browser only. Preview this log prints it with a preview watermark.
To turn the log into a transcript, use Save this to a free Famlo account on the same page:
- Enter Your email and select Email me a code.
- Enter the code from the email.
- On Add your log to a school record, choose whose record it is and set a subject for each entry.
- Select Save to the school record.
Your entries move into your child's school record, and you can carry on from step 2 above. Famlo holds a log you send this way for 2 days, so finish saving it soon after you ask for the code.
Troubleshooting
The transcript shows no GPA. Only courses with both a letter grade and a credit count. Edit the courses that should count and add both. If it reads In progress, some credited courses have no grade yet.
A class my child took isn't on the transcript. Classes are added overnight, after attendance is taken or a meeting has passed. Check that the booking is paid and was made for this child, and that you haven't hidden the course on the school record.
The hours or grade from an organization are wrong. You can't change them yourself, because they come from the organization's own record. Message the organization and ask them to correct it.
A course shows no hours. The organization didn't record session times. Select Edit on the course and add the hours yourself.
