Closing your listing

Closing a listing schedules it for permanent deletion after a 30-day grace period. During those thirty days nothing is lost and you can call it off. On the thirtieth day everything is removed and cannot be recovered.

Only the owner can do this — specifically the person who created or claimed the listing. Giving somebody else the Owner role does not pass this on.

:::warning There is no data export Famlo cannot produce a copy of your organization's data before it is deleted. There is no member export, no attendance report, no emergency-contact download and no archive of messages. The one exception is the family ledger on your console dashboard, which exports a CSV of the dues figures on screen for anyone who can open billing.

Anything else you want to keep — contact details, notes, dates — copy it out by hand before the deletion date. :::

Schedule the deletion

  1. Open the account menu and choose Manage organizations.
  2. Select your organization, then open Settings.
  3. Scroll to the bottom, to Danger zone.
  4. Select Schedule deletion.
  5. Confirm. The dialog reads "Schedule this organization for deletion in 30 days? You can cancel any time before then."

That is the whole confirmation. You are not asked for your password and you do not type the organization's name.

What happens straight away

The moment you schedule it, and long before the deletion date:

  • The listing is hidden from discovery. It and its activities drop out of search and the directory.
  • New joins close immediately. Nobody else can join or apply.
  • Members are emailed. The message tells them the listing is leaving Famlo — not that your group is closing — so it does not speak for you about why.
  • The Danger zone changes. It now reads "Scheduled for deletion on" with the date, and offers Cancel scheduled deletion.

During the 30 days

Reminders go out so the date does not arrive unannounced.

WhenWho is reminded
7 days beforeYou, and every member
1 day beforeYou

Everything else carries on as it was for the people already inside. Existing members keep their access, and you keep full control of the listing, including the ability to stop the whole thing.

What happens on the date

  • Every active paid membership is cancelled, and the unused part of the period each member already paid for is refunded to them. They do not have to do anything.
  • The listing and everything attached to it is permanently removed — activities, memberships, follows and promo codes included.
  • You are emailed to confirm the deletion is complete.

:::danger This cannot be undone Once the grace period ends there is no way to recover the organization or anything in it. Recreating it means starting a new listing and asking everyone to join again. :::

Cancel a scheduled deletion

You can stop it at any point in the thirty days.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Scroll to Danger zone.
  3. Select Cancel scheduled deletion.

Your members are emailed that the closure is off, because they were emailed that it was happening. The listing returns to discovery, joining reopens, and the reminder schedule resets — so if you ever schedule deletion again, the 7-day and 1-day warnings start fresh.

Things to try instead

Closing is rarely the only option.

Take it out of the directory without deleting anything. On Settings, untick Published (visible in the directory) and select Save changes. Your members keep their access and you can put it back whenever you like.

Keep it, but stop being found. Set Visibility to Private in the Membership & joining block. The listing is then reachable only by a direct link you share.

Stop charging. In Membership dues, untick Enable membership dues and select Save membership settings.

Hand it to someone else. Give a trusted member the Owner role from the Members page. There is no separate transfer flow — see Members, roles, and messaging. Note that payouts and this danger zone stay with the person who created or claimed the listing, so a full handover needs support.

Troubleshooting

I can't find Schedule deletion. The Danger zone only appears for the person who created or claimed the listing. Co-leaders never see it, and neither does someone who was later given the Owner role.

It says the organization is already scheduled for deletion. Look for "Scheduled for deletion on" in the Danger zone. Select Cancel scheduled deletion if that was not what you wanted.

My members say they were never told. They were emailed when you scheduled it, and again a week before the date. Ask them to check their spam folder. You can also send an announcement from each activity to say it in your own words.

I need the roster before it goes. There is no way to download it. Copy what you need from the Members page while the listing still exists.

The grace period ended and I want the organization back. It is gone, and support cannot restore it. Create a new listing and invite your members to join it.

A family says they were charged after we closed. Active paid memberships are cancelled on the deletion date with the unused part refunded. If a charge appears after that, contact support with the date and amount.
