Testimonials
Families can write a few words about a class, a service or your organization. Each one lands in Testimonials in your console, where you decide whether to publish it and where it shows. You can't change a family's words. Testimonials are on every Famlo plan, and you need to be an owner or co-leader to open them.
Review a new testimonial
- Select Testimonials in your console (1). The number beside it is how many are waiting in To review.
- Stay on the To review tab (2) and select a testimonial. It opens in a panel on the right.
- Read the family's words. Any child's name in them is highlighted.
- Under Show it on, tick each place you want it to appear (1 in the second picture).
- Select Publish (2 in the second picture), or Don't publish if you'd rather not show it.
When you publish, you'll see "Published. It shows where you ticked, within a few minutes."
When a testimonial arrives
When a family sends a new testimonial, Famlo tells the people who can edit School settings: the owner, and anyone whose access lets them edit settings. Each gets a notification, such as "Sam Rivera wrote a testimonial about Math Circle", and an email, "Sam Rivera wrote a testimonial for Sunnyside Learning Co.". The notification says whether the family allowed you to publish it or shared it with you privately. Open it in Testimonials in the email opens the testimonial in your console. The family's words aren't in the notification or the email, only in your console.
These come under Team inbox in Account settings › Notifications › For organizations you run, so you can choose how you're told there. See Notifications.
When a family edits a testimonial, it goes back to To review without a new notification. The count beside Testimonials in your console always shows how many are waiting.
The four tabs
| Tab | What's in it |
|---|---|
| To review | New testimonials the family allowed you to publish, waiting for your decision. This is where the page opens. |
| Published | The ones you published. They're showing in the places you ticked. |
| Private | Notes a family asked to share only with you, or didn't allow you to publish. You can read them and reply, but you can't publish them. |
| Not published | The ones you chose not to publish. They stay here in the family's own words. |
Each row shows the family's name as they chose it, what the testimonial is about, when it arrived, and the start of their words.
Where a published testimonial shows
The Show it on choices in the panel decide where a testimonial appears. The first three are ticked for you.
| Choice | Where it appears |
|---|---|
| Your website's testimonials section | Any Testimonials section on your website's pages |
| The class page | The page for the class it's about, on famlo.co and on your website. Only offered when the testimonial is about a class. |
| Your Famlo page | The What families say section of your organization's page on famlo.co |
| Feature on your homepage | The testimonials band on your website's homepage. It shows there only when Your website's testimonials section is ticked too. |
To change where a published testimonial shows, open it from Published, change the ticks and select Save where it shows.
The website choices only matter once your organization has a website. There, published testimonials appear in Testimonials sections on your pages. See Sections you can add.
Testimonials never show stars, scores or averages.
Children's names
Families are told their children's names never appear in public. If a testimonial mentions a child from the family's account, the panel says so: "Mentions a child's name: … will be replaced with "my child" when published." Publishing makes that swap for you. You don't need to do anything.
You can't reword a testimonial
The panel says it plainly: "You can publish or not, but not reword it. Only the family can edit their words."
If a testimonial has a typo or something you'd rather not show, your choices are to publish it as it is, select Don't publish, or reply to the family privately and ask whether they'd like to change it.
When a family edits their testimonial, it comes down from your pages and goes back to To review for you to look at again. If a family withdraws one, it comes off your pages and out of your Testimonials.
Don't publish, or take one down
- On a new testimonial, select Don't publish. It moves to Not published.
- On a published one, select Don't publish to take it off every page. It also moves to Not published.
- To change your mind later, open it from Not published and select Publish.
You'll see "Not published. It stays here. The family isn't sent a message, but their own list shows it as Not published."
Reply to a family privately
- Open the testimonial.
- Under Reply to (the family's first name) privately (3 in the second picture), write your message.
- Select Send in Messages.
Your reply goes into your organization's conversation with that family in Messages, and the conversation opens so you can carry on there. You can reply to any testimonial, including private ones. See Your team inbox and quick replies.
How families are asked
Famlo asks families for you, in your organization's name. A family is asked:
- the day after the last session of a class they booked,
- the day after an appointment they booked with you,
- 60 days after they join your organization.
Ongoing classes with no end date are never asked about. Canceled appointments and missed appointments aren't either.
To keep it from feeling like too much, a family gets at most one ask from your organization every 30 days. They're never asked twice about the same thing, or about something they've already written about.
Each ask is a Leave a testimonial card on the family's Home page, and an email that comes from your organization ("How was (class)?" or "How has (your organization) been for your family?"). The email goes only to families who get Activity updates by email. Families can dismiss the card with Not now.
Ask families yourself
You can invite anyone to write one, any time.
- Open Testimonials.
- Select Copy the “share your experience” link (3 in the first picture). You'll see "Link copied".
- Paste the link into an email, a newsletter or a message.
If your organization has its own website, the link opens the form on your website. If not, it opens the form on famlo.co. Families sign in with their Famlo account to write one. Families can also find Share your experience on your organization's page on famlo.co.
To see what families see when they write one, read Share your experience (testimonials).
Troubleshooting
I can't see Testimonials in my console. Only owners and co-leaders can open it. Ask your organization's owner to check your access in People › Staff & teachers.
A testimonial is in Private and there's no Publish button. The family asked to share it only with you, or didn't allow publishing. The panel tells you which. Only the family can change that. You can still reply privately.
I published a testimonial but it isn't on my website. Check that Your website's testimonials section is ticked and that one of your pages has a Testimonials section. Featured testimonials need both ticks. Changes can take a few minutes to show.
To review says "Nothing to review". No new testimonials are waiting. Send your share link to families you'd like to hear from.
