Claim an existing listing

Some organizations are added to Famlo by the community before anyone who runs them signs up. If you find yours, you can claim it instead of starting a new listing. You need a free Famlo account. Claiming is free, and Famlo's team checks each claim before the listing becomes yours.

Claim your listing

An unclaimed listing has a dark bar under the header: Is this your group? "Claim it to add classes, photos and take registrations."

  1. Open your organization's page on famlo.co.
  2. Select Claim this listing → (1) in the bar. If you're signed out, the link reads Sign in to claim →. Sign in or create your account, and you come back to the same page.

  1. Check Business name. It starts filled in with the listing's name. Change it to "the legal or public name of the business you're claiming" if that's different.
  2. Fill in Your role at this business, for example Owner, Director or Manager. This one is optional.
  3. Fill in Verification details. Give links or details that show you represent the organization: a website, a social profile, an email address at your organization's domain, or a registration number. The more you give, the faster Famlo can check it.
  4. Select Submit claim (1).

You're taken back to the listing with "Thanks — your claim has been submitted for review. We'll email you with the outcome."

tip

If your organization is already listed, claim it rather than creating a second listing. Families who follow the existing page stay with you.

While Famlo reviews your claim

The bar on your listing changes to Claim under review: "A business owner has submitted a claim for this listing. It's being verified by our team." Nobody can start a claim from the bar while it shows.

You can only have one claim in review for a listing at a time. If you try again, you see "You already have a claim under review for this listing."

Until a claim is approved, the listing works like any community listing. Families can follow it, but they can't message you, join or register through it.

What happens next

Famlo tells you the outcome in your inbox on famlo.co (the bell on a computer, Messages on a phone) and, for an approval or a rejection, by email.

OutcomeIn your inboxEmail
Approved"Your claim for [your organization] was approved." "You now own this verified listing on Famlo." Selecting it opens your console."You now own [your organization] on Famlo", showing "Status: Verified & claimed" and "Your role: Owner", with a Manage [your organization] button.
Not approved"Your claim for [your organization] wasn't approved." It shows the reviewer's notes, or "You can submit a new claim with more details.""Update on your claim for [your organization]", with any Reviewer notes and a View [your organization] button.
Someone else's claim approved firstOther claims still in review are closed. Nothing is sent.None.
Ownership revoked"Your ownership of [your organization] was revoked." "This listing has been returned to the community directory."None.

Claim again after a rejection

Read the reviewer's notes, then go back to the listing. Once no claim is in review, the Is this your group? bar is back. Select Claim this listing → and send a new claim with more verification details.

If ownership is revoked

The listing goes back to being an unclaimed community listing. It loses its Verified mark, and you're no longer its owner. If you think this is a mistake, open a ticket with Famlo Support.

What you get once it's approved

  • You own the listing. You're "the person who created or claimed the listing", and you appear as Owner in People › Staff & teachers. Only you can set up Getting paid and use the Danger zone in School settings.
  • A Verified mark. Your page shows ✓ Verified under your organization's name.
  • Your console. Edit the profile, post classes, invite your team and set up payouts. Open it from your avatar menu › Manage organizations.
  • Families can reach you. The page now offers Message, and families can join and register for what you post.

Emails Famlo sends to unclaimed listings

If an unclaimed listing has a public contact email, Famlo emails that address a reminder to claim it. There are three: about a day, a week and a month after the listing was added. Their subjects are:

  • "Your organization is listed on Famlo — claim it"
  • "Families are finding your listing on Famlo"
  • "Last reminder: claim your Famlo listing"

Each has a Claim your listing button that opens the claim form. Famlo sends them only while the listing is unclaimed.

To stop them without signing in:

  1. Select Unsubscribe at the bottom of the email.
  2. On the "Stop these emails?" page, select Stop these emails.

The page then says Stopped. Famlo won't send that address any more reminders about community listings. If you close the page without selecting the button, nothing changes.

Troubleshooting

The page says "This listing isn't available to claim." Someone already owns this listing, either because they created it or because their claim was approved. If you believe it's yours, open a ticket with Famlo Support.

The page says "You already own this listing." You're already its owner. Open it from your avatar menu › Manage organizations.

There's no Claim this listing link in the bar. If the bar says Claim under review, a claim is already being checked. Wait for the outcome. If you're signed out, the link reads Sign in to claim →.

The stop link says "We couldn't read that link". Your email app may have cut the link short. Reply to the email and ask Famlo to stop them.

The wrong person on our team claimed it. Only the person who claimed the listing can manage payouts and close it, but they can hand that over. They make the right person an Owner or Co-leader, then open School settings › Danger zone and select Hand it over. Once the other person accepts, they're in charge of payouts and closing the listing. See How do I transfer group leadership?.
