Famlo plans: Free, Scholarship and Website
Every organization on Famlo starts on Free, and many stay there. Two paid plans add more: Scholarship for approved Step Up providers, and Website for your own website on your own web address. You buy, switch and cancel a plan in School settings › Plan & billing.
The three plans
| Plan | Price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 / month, with no time limit | Everything you need to list, sign up and run your group (see below). |
| Scholarship | $49 / month (monthly only) | Everything in Free, plus Step Up and ESA payments: families pay with their Step Up scholarship instead of a card, and Famlo writes the invoice and tracks it until you're paid. |
| Website | $99 / month or $990 a year | Everything in Scholarship, plus your own website, built and edited in the console, on a web address you already own. |
Free is not a trial. Nothing switches off after 30 days. It includes:
- a listing on the map families already search;
- unlimited events, registrations and rosters;
- card checkout straight into your own Stripe account;
- allergies, needs and pickup details on rosters;
- attendance, with QR self check-in;
- announcements and messages;
- staff roles you can adjust area by area;
- a ledger export (CSV);
- Services, Store, Testimonials and Integrations.
Scholarship adds:
- running without connecting Stripe at all;
- invoices in the child's name, period by period, with a status on every invoice;
- what you're floating this month;
- Money › Scholarships & ESA and School settings › Scholarship billing, including your own scholarship funds and awards.
Accept Step Up and ESA payments walks through it.
Website adds:
- the Website place in your console, where you build your site;
- your own web address. Bring a domain you already own; Famlo doesn't sell or register one;
- booking emails to families in your site's look, under your name;
- recording membership dues that families pay you in cash, by check or transfer, outside Famlo. Paid classes are always paid online.
Your Famlo website: what you get covers the site itself.
The booking fee is the same on every plan
Families pay a booking fee on paid bookings (3.7% of the price plus $1.79 a ticket, plus Stripe's processing), so you receive the full price you set. You can choose to pay it yourself instead. No plan waives or lowers it, and there's no booking fee on scholarship money or on money you collect outside Famlo. The booking fee, and paying it yourself has the details.
Who can buy or change a plan
Anyone whose School settings access is set to Edit settings can buy, switch and cancel the plan. With the standard roles, that's the Owner and Co-leaders.
People with Money access (View or Take payments & refund), such as the Bookkeeper, can open Plan & billing to see which plan you're on, but can't change it. For them the page shows only the current plan, with "Only the owner and co-leaders can change the plan." Where the console offers a plan upgrade, for example on Money › Scholarships & ESA, they see "Ask the owner or a co-leader to add it." instead of a button. See What staff can do to change someone's access.
Each organization has its own plan. If you run more than one, each is billed separately: one can stay on Free while another adds Scholarship.
Buy a paid plan
- Open School settings (1), then Plan & billing (2).
- On the Scholarship or Website card, choose how to pay: Switch to Scholarship, or for Website Pay monthly, $99 or Pay yearly, $990.
- The first time you buy, tick the box to agree to Famlo's Terms of Service and Refund Policy. After that, the page reminds you that buying or changing a plan agrees to them.
- Enter your card on the secure Stripe checkout page and pay.
When you come back, the page says "Your plan is active. Thanks for backing Famlo." If it says Famlo is still confirming the payment with Stripe, wait a moment and the page catches up.
Paid plans have no free trial, no setup fee and no cancellation fee. A yearly plan is paid for the year in advance and starts the day you pay for it.
Famlo doesn't add sales or use tax to plan charges, so there's no tax line on your plan invoices and no exemption certificate to send. If that ever changes, Famlo will tell organizations before tax is added to any charge. Tax on what your organization sells is separate and yours to handle: see Taxes.
Coming from the pricing page
The buttons on famlo.co/pricing (Add Scholarship and Get Website) take you to Plan & billing with that plan highlighted as "The one you picked". If you can change the plan for more than one organization, Famlo first asks Which organization is this for? Pick one; the others stay exactly as they are. If you can't change any of your organizations' plans, the same page lists them with the plan each is on and says "Only an organization's owner or a co-leader can change its plan, so ask the owner." If you don't run an organization yet, you start by creating a listing. Start your community is the Free plan's button: it starts a new listing, or opens your organizations if you already run one.
Switch plans or billing
Once you pay for a plan, the other card's buttons change it in place, for example Switch to Scholarship or Pay monthly, $99. Each button also shows the amount you'll pay today. Changes are prorated both ways:
- Moving up from Scholarship to Website, billed monthly, charges the difference for the rest of your current period now.
- Moving down from Website to Scholarship, billed monthly, charges nothing now. What's left of your current period is credited against your next invoice.
- Changing how often you're billed (monthly to yearly, or yearly to monthly) starts a new period today, and what's left of the current one is credited against it. On your current Website card, the button reads Switch to yearly billing or Switch to monthly billing, followed by the amount due today.
If your website is live on your own web address, switching from Website to Scholarship takes it offline as soon as you switch. The Scholarship card says so before you choose.
Cancel a plan
- Open School settings, then Plan & billing.
- On your current plan's card, select Cancel this plan, then confirm.
The plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and that period isn't refunded. Until then nothing changes, and Plan & billing shows the date it ends. Changed your mind? Select Keep it running before that date and the plan keeps renewing. After it ends, your organization carries on with everything in Free. Nothing you've created is deleted.
If you're on Website, your website goes offline on the day the plan ends. It shows a "taking a short break" page, nothing on it is deleted, and buying the plan again brings it back. Your Famlo website: what you get explains what visitors see.
Invoices and your card
Once you've paid for a plan, Plan & billing has an Invoices & receipts card. Select View billing history to see every Famlo invoice for your organization with PDFs, and to change the card Famlo bills.
Renewal reminders and failed payments
Paid plans renew automatically. Famlo emails the person who created or claimed the listing before each renewal: 3 to 7 days ahead for a monthly plan, and 30 to 60 days ahead for a yearly one.
If a payment doesn't go through, the same person gets an email, and the plan shows as past due on Plan & billing. While it's unpaid:
- the features your plan adds stop working, but nothing you've created is deleted;
- on Website, your website goes offline until the plan is paid;
- Stripe keeps retrying the card for a few days.
To settle it straight away, open Plan & billing, select View billing history and update your card.
If your plan shows On us
If your plan shows On us, there's nothing to pay and no card on file. You have everything the plan includes.
The Verified badge
Your organization is Verified once Stripe setup is finished or while a paid Famlo plan is active.
Troubleshooting
I can't find Plan & billing. You need School settings set to Edit settings to change the plan, or Money access to see it. Ask your organization's Owner to change what you can do in People › Staff & teachers.
Plan & billing says "Only the owner and co-leaders can change the plan." You can see the plan through your Money access, but buying, switching and cancelling need School settings set to Edit settings. Ask the Owner or a Co-leader.
I bought the plan for the wrong organization. Plans belong to one organization. Cancel it in that organization's Plan & billing, then buy it in the right one. If you need help with a charge, open a support ticket.
The page says "Please agree to the Terms of Service and Refund Policy to change your plan." Tick the agreement box above the plan cards, then select the button again.
