Your console and Today

The console is where you run your organization on Famlo: classes, families, messages, money and settings. It opens on Today, which shows your day and anything that needs you. The console is for your organization's owners and for staff who have access to something. Families who join and people set to Profile only don't get one.

Open your console

  1. Select your avatar at the top right of famlo.co.
  2. Select Manage organizations (1).
The avatar menu with Manage organizations and Teaching calendar highlightedThe avatar menu with Manage organizations and Teaching calendar highlighted

If you run one organization, you go straight to its Today. If you run several, you go back to the one you used last, or you pick one from Your organizations. Teaching calendar (2) is covered below.

When you're in the console, the same menu also has Switch to my family, which takes you back to your family's Dashboard.

The console's address is famlo.co/ followed by your organization's type and address, then /manage. For example, a co-op called Sunnyside Learning Co. is at famlo.co/co-op/sunnyside-learning/manage.

Find your way around

On a computer, the rail on the left (1) lists the console's places. You see only the places you can use, so two people on the same team can see different places. Some places show a number when something is waiting there.

Teachers don't get the Classes place. They reach their own classes from Today. Front desk staff don't get it either. They reach every class's register from Today and Schedule. If someone's access has been changed line by line (Custom), what they see follows those lines. See What staff can do: roles and access.

Collapse the rail. Select Collapse sidebar at the top of the rail to shrink it to icons, and Expand sidebar to bring it back. The [ key does the same. The console remembers your choice in that browser.

Switch organizations. The box under the Famlo logo shows the organization you're in, with the current semester and week when a term is running. Select it to open Your organizations, then pick another one, or choose All organizations or Add organization.

Use the console on a phone

On a phone's browser, the rail becomes a tab bar along the bottom: Today, Schedule, Classes, People and More (1). More opens every other place you can use, then Switch organization. As on a computer, places you can't use are left out.

Today on a phone, with the tab bar at the bottom and More highlightedToday on a phone, with the tab bar at the bottom and More highlighted

The tab bar shows on each place's main pages. Inside a class, a record or a form, a row of places at the top of the page takes you back instead.

A Famlo iPhone app is coming soon.

Search the console

On a computer, the search field at the top of every console page (2 in the picture above) finds things in the organization you're in. Press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows to jump to it, and type at least two letters.

  • Children, families and classes are searchable by people who run all classes (by default Owners, Co-leaders and Class organizers). A family matches on its name, a parent's name or email, and opens its first child's record. Classes include drafts and canceled classes, marked as such.
  • People finds your staff by name or email, for anyone who can see your staff list.

The placeholder names only the kinds you can search, for example "Search children, families, classes, people…". If there's nothing you can search, there's no search field. Results never show allergies or medical details. Those stay on the child's record.

What Today shows

Today looks different depending on what you do in your organization.

  • If you run classes or take attendance for every class (Owners, Co-leaders, Class organizers, Front desk), you get a greeting, a one-line summary such as "3 classes today · 12 children signed up · 3 things need you", then Now, Next and Needs you side by side. Below them, The whole day lays out today's classes by place. Select a class to open it. Each class card has Take attendance, Sign-in QR, Directions and Open class. A class with no teacher shows in red. On a phone, Needs you comes first. On a day with nothing on, you see "Nothing on today." and Open the schedule.
  • If you teach, you see the class in front of you with Take attendance, Show sign-in QR and Message parents, then Later today and This week. You see only your own classes. With nothing to teach, Today says "Nothing for you to teach today."
  • Everyone else (for example a Bookkeeper) sees the Needs you list.
  • On a quiet stretch, when your organization has run things before but has nothing scheduled, people who run classes see "What's next for" your organization with ideas: Something new, A field trip or park day, or Something you've run before, plus a record of what you've run.

The buttons at the top of Today take you to your public page (View your page, or View your website if you have a website) and start a New class if you can create classes.

Needs you

Needs you is one list of things waiting for someone, with one button each. You see only the rows you can act on. The first three show, and See all opens the rest. When it's empty it says "Nothing needs you right now."

The Get ready checklist

After you publish a new organization, Today shows a Get ready card with a count, such as "2 of 5 done". Only owners and Co-leaders see it ("Only you and co-leaders see this"). The rest of your team sees a line saying your organization is still being set up.

The steps depend on your organization's type:

StepButton
Publish your listingAlready done when the card appears
Add your first class (about 5 minutes)Add a class
Set this semester's dates (about 1 minute)Set dates
Bring your families in (about 5 minutes)Invite families
Decide how you'll take money (about 10 minutes)Choose, which opens Plan & billing

A step shows no button if your role can't do it. For example, a Co-leader sees Bring your families in without Invite families.

The card goes away for good when your organization takes its first booking, when someone other than you joins it, when a family starts paying dues, or when you select Skip setup. Skipping asks "Hide these steps for good? Everyone on your team stops seeing them." There's no way to bring the card back.

If you'd rather set up with help, the card ends with Rather do it together? Select Book a setup call to open a ticket at the support desk, and Famlo books 30 minutes to set up your first class with you, on your real schedule.

Teaching calendar

The Teaching calendar shows "Everything you run or teach, across your communities": every class you run or are assigned to teach, in every organization you're part of. Open it from your avatar menu: Teaching calendar. Switch between Week and List, and use Subscribe to add it to Google, Apple or Outlook Calendar. "This feed covers every community you lead."

For one organization's full calendar, use Schedule in its console. See Schedule, semesters and breaks.

The owner bar on your public page

When owners and Co-leaders open your organization's page on famlo.co, a bar at the top says "This is your page. Families see it without these buttons."

  • View as a family shows the page as families see it. Back to your view returns.
  • Edit page opens School settings, where you change your name, logo and details.
  • Change cover (or Add a cover photo) changes the photo at the top.

See Your organization's profile.

Troubleshooting

I don't see Manage organizations in my menu. You don't have console access at any organization yet. Families who joined and staff set to Profile only don't get a console. Ask an owner to change what you can do, or create your own listing with List your organization.

A place I need is missing from the rail. Places show only when your access includes them. Ask an owner to check your access in People › Staff & teachers. Website also needs the Website plan or an existing website.

There's no search field. Search shows on wider screens only, and only if your access lets you search something. Bookkeepers, for example, have nothing to search.

The Get ready card disappeared before I finished. It goes away for good after your first booking, once someone else joins, or once a family starts paying dues. You can still do every step from its place: Classes, Schedule, People › Requests & invites and School settings › Plan & billing.
