Listing your organization

A listing is your organization's page on Famlo. It is how families find you, read about you, and join or book what you offer. Anyone with a Famlo account can create one, and you become its owner.

Setup is a guided flow. It is presented in three parts — Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 — with twelve screens between them. Nothing is public until you select Publish on the last one.

Start your listing

  1. Open the account menu and choose List your organization. If you already run one, the same menu offers Add organization.
  2. Read the opening screen and select Get started.

Your progress is saved from the moment you answer the location question, so you can close the tab and come back.

Step 1: the basics

Which of these best describes your organization?

Eighteen types, grouped four ways. Pick the one closest to what you run — the rest of the flow adapts to it.

GroupTypes
Community-ledCo-op, Learning pod, Community, Meetup, Faith-based community, Support group
Educator-ledMicro-school, Charter school, Online school, Tutor, Enrichment program, Studio, Sports club, Camp
PlaceVenue, Attraction, Library
OtherBusiness

Each card carries a one-line description, so Learning pod reads "Small group with shared curriculum" and Venue reads "Space for events & activities". The type you pick becomes part of your public address, so it is worth getting right — you can still change it later.

Where do you serve families?

Choose one of two shapes:

  • We have a physical location — meets in person, or has a building families can visit. Start typing your address and pick a suggestion so the map pin lands correctly.
  • We're online — operates virtually, no physical address. Then either tick Available nationwide or pick the states you serve under Or pick the states you serve.

A listing is one or the other. You cannot be online and also carry a street address.

Who can join?

Three presets, each setting how you are listed and how people get in at the same time.

ChoiceWhat it means
Open"Listed publicly and anyone can join instantly." Best for meetups, libraries, and attractions.
Closed"Listed publicly, but people request to join and you review each one. Members-only events stay private." Best for co-ops, pods, and schools.
Private"Hidden from search and directories — reachable only by a link you share, and invite-only." Best for private groups.

The screen says so itself: "You can change this any time from your organization settings." Settings also splits these into two separate controls, so a listed organization that still screens applicants is possible later. See Organization settings.

Step 2: make it stand out

Name

Type the name families will recognise, up to 100 characters. It needs at least three characters, and it saves as you type.

Description

What it is, who it is for, and what makes it worth joining. Up to 2,000 characters.

This one is optional. With the box empty the button reads Skip for now, and a listing can publish without a description.

Cover photo

Drag a photo in, or select the box to choose one. You can add several — the first is your cover.

A photo is also optional. With nothing chosen the button reads Skip for now, and your listing shows a designed colour block until you add one. You can add photos any time afterwards from the Photos page.

Categories

The tags families filter the directory by. Which groups you are asked about depends on your type, so a library is not asked about educational approach.

Pick at least one to continue. This is the only screen in Step 2 you cannot skip.

Step 3: finish up

Screening questions

Up to three free-text questions an applicant answers when they request to join. Each has a Required checkbox, and leaving a question blank drops it.

This screen only appears for organization types that run a membership. A venue or a library has nobody to screen, so the flow skips straight to the review.

Review

A summary of Type, Location, Who can join, Categories and, where it applies, Screening questions. Each row has an Edit link that takes you back to that screen and returns you here afterwards.

When it is right, select Publish. Your listing goes live and you land on its public page.

There is no pricing step

The flow never asks for a price, a membership fee, or your bank details, and publishing is not held up waiting for any of them. Membership dues and payouts are both configured later, from Settings, and only if you want them. See Membership dues and Getting paid.

Picking up a part-finished listing

Drafts live under Your listings.

  1. Open the account menu and choose List your organization.
  2. Under In progress, find the draft. Each row shows its type, the word "Draft", and when you last edited it.
  3. Select Continue. You return to the first screen that still needs an answer, not to the beginning.

Start new organization begins a separate listing. The trash icon on a row deletes that draft, and asks "Delete this draft? This can't be undone." first.

Your address once you publish

Your public address is built from your type and your name, so a co-op called Riverbend becomes famlo.co/co-op/riverbend. A micro-school sits under famlo.co/micro-school/..., an enrichment program under famlo.co/enrichment-program/....

You can also claim a short link — famlo.co/@riverbend — from Settings. It is easier to text or print than the full address.

What to do next

  1. Fill in the rest of your settings — logo, photos, tagline, contact email, time zone.
  2. Schedule your first activity.
  3. Add your team and approve people who ask to join.

Troubleshooting

I can't get past the categories screen. Pick at least one tag. The screen says "Pick at least one to continue," and publishing is refused without one.

Publish came back with "Not quite ready to publish". Three things are checked at that moment. The name has to be real and at least three characters. The location has to be filled in — an online listing needs either Available nationwide or at least one state. And you need at least one category. The reasons are listed above the summary.

I never saw a screen about photos being required. A photo is not required. If you want to skip it, the button says Skip for now.

I closed the tab and lost my work. You did not. Open List your organization again and select Continue on the draft.

I picked the wrong type. On the review screen, select Edit beside Type. After publishing, change Type on the Settings page.

I can't find my listing in search. Check that Published (visible in the directory) is ticked on the Settings page. A listing set to Private visibility is deliberately not listed anywhere.
