Sell downloads, videos and bundles in your Store

Store in your console is where you sell guides, printables and recorded workshops. Families buy them with the same checkout as your classes, and what they buy stays in their Famlo account. The Store is on every Famlo plan. Owners and co-leaders can use it, or anyone whose School settings access is set to Edit settings.

  1. Open Store in the left rail (1).
  2. Select New download (2), New video or New bundle. The editor opens beside your list.
  3. Type a Name. This is what families see.
  4. Under What it is, describe the item.
  5. If you like, fill in One line on the card (optional), for example "PDF + checklist · 24 pages" or "Recorded workshop · 75 min". If you leave it blank, the card says what kind of item it is.
  6. Enter a Price, or leave it blank to make the item free.
  7. Tick Free for your members — they get it in their portal without paying if members should get it at no cost.
  8. Add a Cover (optional). Covers are 2 : 1 and look best at 2400 × 1200. As the editor says, "Without one, the card shows its name on a color block."
  9. Add what families get: files for a download, the video for a video, or the items in a bundle. See the next section.
  10. Tick Step Up can pay for this if Step Up scholarships can pay for it.
  11. Leave On sale — shown in your shop ticked so families can find it.
  12. Select Add to your shop. You'll see "Added. It's in your shop."

To change an item later, select its row in the list, make your changes, and select Save changes.

The list shows each item's Price and how many have been Sold. Under each name you'll see the kind of item, plus "free for members" or "Step Up" when those are on. An item that isn't on sale has "· off sale" after its name.

BundleEvery item you tick under What's in the bundleDownloads and videos only. "Services can't be in a bundle yet."
  • Files are never public. Families download them from their account after they buy, with a link that lasts a few minutes. To open one of your own files, select Check it next to it.
  • New files are added to the ones already there. To take one away, tick Remove next to it before you save.
  • A private video link can be an unlisted Vimeo or YouTube link, or a shared Drive file. It must start with https://. Families who have the video are sent there, and nobody else sees the link.
  • Bundles need downloads or videos to put in them, so add those first. A family who buys a bundle gets each item in it. When the bundle costs less than its items bought one at a time, families see the separate total struck out.

In the editor above, the Price (1) is $12, Free for your members (2) is off, two PDFs are uploaded (3), and On sale (4) is unticked, so this item is out of the shop.

Price, members, Step Up and On sale

  • Price. Paid items need a way to take payment, usually Stripe. See Set up getting paid with Stripe. Free items work without it.
  • Free for your members. Members of your organization get the item in their account without paying. Everyone else sees "Free for" your organization's name and "members", and can buy it at your price. Members don't need to do anything, and they keep it only while they're members and the item is on sale. These don't count as sales.
  • Step Up can pay for this. Families can choose their Step Up scholarship at checkout. Until scholarship payments are set up under Money, the editor says "Families will see it once scholarship payments are set up under Money." See Accept Step Up and ESA payments.
  • On sale — shown in your shop. Untick it to take an item out of your shop and stop new purchases. You can't delete an item. Families who bought it keep it.

The booking fee

Families pay a booking fee on paid items (3.7% of the price plus $1.79, plus Stripe's processing), so you receive the full price you set. Prices families see already include it. Your Store list shows your own price. Your organization-wide choice applies here too: if you pay the booking fee yourself, families see just your price. Free items and Step Up purchases have no booking fee. See The booking fee, and paying it yourself.

Where families find your items

Store items show on your website and through their direct links.

  • On your website, the menu shows Shop while you have something on sale. The shop page lists your items, and each item has its own page you can link to.
  • A From the shop section shows a few of your downloads and videos on any page of your website. See Sections you can add.
  • Pins. You can pin an item that's on sale to the top of your Famlo page, as one of up to three pins. See Your organization profile.

After buying, the family gets an email titled "It's yours:" with the item's name, and the item appears under Library & resources on their Dashboard and in their Parent portal. To see what they see, read Buying from a shop, and your downloads.

Sales and refunds

Sales, below your items, lists your 50 most recent purchases, newest first, with the date, the item and who bought it. Each sale shows how it went: Paid or Scholarship with the amount (for example "Paid $12"), Covered by scholarship, Free, Payment processing, Refunded or Cancelled.

Families can't cancel a purchase themselves. If a family asks for their money back, you decide.

  1. In Sales, select Refund next to the purchase (3 in the first screenshot).
  2. Check what goes back on the Cancel booking page: Amount paid, Activity refund, Booking fee refund and Total refund.
  3. Select Cancel booking, then confirm.

The purchase is canceled and the item leaves the family's account.

To send back part of a payment and let the family keep the item, use Send refund instead. That needs Money access set to Take payments & refund. Sending back the full price this way also takes the item back. A Step Up purchase never went through a card, so there's no card refund to send. See Refunds: sending one, answering a request, and cancellations.

Troubleshooting

I don't see Store in my console. Store needs School settings access set to Edit settings. Owners and co-leaders have it. Ask an owner to change your access. See What staff can do: roles and access.

I can't put a paid item on sale. Your organization can't take payments yet, and the editor says why, for example "Connect a Stripe account to accept payments." Finish getting paid with Stripe, or save the item as free for now.

A file won't upload. Each file can be up to 250 MB, and a download can have up to 20 files. The editor names any file that's too big. For a long video, use Or a private link to it, and make sure the link starts with https://.

How do I delete an item? You can't. Untick On sale — shown in your shop and save. The item leaves your shop, and families who bought it keep it.
