Your Famlo website: what you get

With the Website plan, your organization gets its own website, built in your Famlo console and shown on a web address you already own. Families can browse your classes, sign in, book and pay right on your site, in your own look. To build it you need School settings set to Edit settings, which by default means owners and co-leaders.

What your website is

Your site is drawn from two things:

  • What's already in Famlo. Your classes with their seats and prices, your teachers and their bios, reviews from families, your services, your shop and your membership. As the setup screen puts it: "These update on your site by themselves when you change them in Famlo." Add a class in Classes and it appears on your site without any extra step.
  • Pages you write. A homepage, an About page, a FAQ, a page only members can see, and anything else you build from sections such as headings and text, photos, questions and answers, or a sign-up form.

Booking and checkout are built in. Families sign in with their own free Famlo account, book and pay through the same Famlo checkout as on famlo.co, in your colors, and get a Parent portal with their children, bookings and payments with you. Prices on your site already include the booking fee. Organizations with their own website shows the family's side.

Your listing on famlo.co stays where it is, and families can still book there.

What you need

You needWhy
The Website plan, $99 a month or $990 a yearThe plan includes the website and everything in the Scholarship plan. Without it, the Website place doesn't appear in your console (unless your organization already has a site). See Famlo plans.
A web address you own, like www.yourschool.orgThere's no free famlo.co address for your site. It goes online only on your own domain. Famlo doesn't sell or register domains, so buy one from any domain seller first. See Connect your own domain.
School settings set to Edit settingsEvery Website screen needs it. The Owner and Co-leader presets have it. See What staff can do.

Buying the plan and building the site can be different people. Plans are bought in School settings › Plan & billing, by people with School settings set to Edit settings (by default the Owner and Co-leaders). A Bookkeeper can see the plan there but not change it.

Getting your site online

  1. Get the Website plan in School settings › Plan & billing.
  2. Open Website in your console. On the Set up your website · about 5 minutes card, select Start. Setup walks you through a look, your logo and colors, a welcome photo and your contact details. See Set up your website.
  3. Connect your web address in Website › Domain. See Connect your own domain.
  4. Publish. Your site is live once it's published and your address connects.
  5. When your pages are ready, turn on Show in Google search in Website › Domain. New addresses start hidden from Google.

You can publish before your address connects. The site then goes online as soon as the address works.

The Website place

Open Website in your console (1). The line under the heading shows your web address and its state, such as "No web address yet." or "www.yourschool.org · Live". The tabs (2) hold everything that applies to the whole site, and Edit your website (3) opens the on-page editor. View site opens your live site in a new tab once you have an address.

Drafts and live changes

Your website saves in two ways.

The on-page editor works on a draft. In the editor (and in setup) you click words, photos and buttons on the page to change them. Changes save as you go, but families see them only after you select Publish (1). Everyone who edits your site shares the same draft.

The console tabs save straight to your live site. Changes on Theme, Logo & icon, Details, Domain and Connections, and the menu order and In menu switches on Pages, don't wait for Publish. The notice says when they'll show, for example "Live on your site within a minute or two."

Trying looks before you choose

Your site can wear any of eleven looks, and switching never loses what you've written. On Website › Theme, each look's Preview button opens it on demo.famlo.co, a made-up sample co-op, in a new tab, where nothing can be booked. In setup, Full preview shows your own draft in the look you're considering.

If your plan ends: "taking a short break"

Your website stays online only while your Website plan is active. On the day it stops, every public page on your address shows a page with your logo and name and "This website is taking a short break". There's no grace period. This happens when:

  • you cancel the plan and the paid period ends;
  • a plan payment fails;
  • you switch to another plan (switching to Scholarship takes the site offline as soon as you switch).

Pay for the plan again in School settings › Plan & billing and the site comes straight back. If a plan payment fails, Famlo emails you.

Troubleshooting

I don't see Website in my console. Your organization needs the Website plan, and you need School settings set to Edit settings. Check School settings › Plan & billing, or ask your organization's owner.

I published, but my site isn't online. Your site goes online only at your own address. Open Website › Domain to see whether the address is still connecting. See Domain troubleshooting.

I changed something in the editor, but my site looks the same. Editor changes are a draft until you select Publish. After publishing, they reach your live site within a few minutes.

My site shows "This website is taking a short break". Your Website plan isn't active. Check School settings › Plan & billing for a failed payment or a cancellation.
