Pages, your menu, and who can see each page

Your website's menu is made from your pages. You set the menu's order on Website › Pages, and you add, rename, hide and lock pages in the editor. A page you write can be open to everyone, to families signed in to your site, or to your members only.

Your menu on the Pages tab

Open Website in your console. The Pages tab opens first. At the top, Your menu draws your site's header menu the way families see it. Under it are two lists:

  • In your menu: the pages in the menu, in order.
  • Not in the menu · reachable by link: pages that are on your site but not in the menu. Families reach them through a link or a button on another page.
The Your menu card on Website › Pages, with the About page's drag handle as 1, its In menu switch as 2, and the Add a page button as 3The Your menu card on Website › Pages, with the About page's drag handle as 1, its In menu switch as 2, and the Add a page button as 3

To change the menu:

  1. To move a page, drag it by its handle (1) and drop it where you want it. "It saves as you drop."
  2. To put a page in the menu or take it out, select its In menu switch (2).

On a touchscreen, each page has move up and move down buttons in place of the handle. With a keyboard, the arrow keys move the page whose handle is selected.

These two changes go straight to your live site. They don't wait for Publish. The notice says when, for example "Menu order saved. Live on your site within a minute or two."

Each row also shows what kind of page it is (Homepage, Automatic or Sections), its address, Draft if it isn't on your site yet, and when it was last edited. A page only some families can open has a lock pill, Signed-in families or Members only. Select a page's name to open it in the editor.

Add a page (3) opens the editor with its new-page form already open, so you can type the page's name straight away. See Add a page.

What's in the menu, and what Famlo adds

Only pages that are on your site and switched into the menu appear in it, in the order on the Pages tab. There is no separate menu editor, so you can't add a menu item that links to another website. To send families somewhere else, add a button to a page instead (see Sections you can add).

Your site also adds some menu items by itself. They aren't on the Pages list, and you can't move or hide them:

Menu itemShows while
ServicesYou have a service families can book.
ShopYou have something on sale in your store.
MembershipYour organization charges membership dues.

The header also always has Parent portal, where families sign in and see their bookings with you.

The pages every site starts with

PageAddressWhat it is
Home/Your homepage. Always on your site and open to everyone. Not in the menu at first.
Classes/classesAutomatic. Famlo fills it from your classes. In the menu at first.
Instructors/instructorsAutomatic. Famlo fills it from the people you show on your site. Out of the menu at first. It stays out of the menu while nobody is shown, even when it's switched on.
About/aboutA page you write, made from sections. It starts with your organization's description, or as a draft when there's no description yet.

Automatic pages are filled for you. In the editor their panel says "Famlo fills this page for you. Here you can rename it or hide it from the menu." You can rename them, take them out of the menu and move them, but you can't delete them, change their address or limit who sees them. To change what's on them, change your classes or your staff in Famlo. For card styles and filters on the Classes page, see How classes show on your site.

Add a page

  1. On Website, select Add a page. The editor opens with the new-page form showing, so you can skip to step 3. (Or select Edit your website, then go on to step 2.)
  2. In the Pages list on the left, select Add page. (On a phone, open the page menu at the top and choose Add page.)
  3. Type a Page name, then select Add.
  4. The new page opens, empty. Select Add a section and build it. See Sections you can add.
  5. Open the page menu at the top and choose Page settings…. Turn on Show this page on your site.
  6. Select Publish.

A new page starts hidden and in the menu. While it's hidden, the Pages list in the editor marks it Hidden and it isn't on your live site. It shows in the menu once it's switched on and published.

Page settings

In the editor, open a page, then open the page menu at the top (the page's name) and choose Page settings…. The panel on the right holds:

SettingWhat it does
Page nameThe page's title and its label in the menu. Up to 60 characters.
AddressWhere the page lives, after your web address: "Lowercase letters, numbers and dashes, like star-testing." Pages you made only.
Show in menuPuts the page in your menu or takes it out.
Show this page on your site"Off: the page stays hidden until you turn it on and publish." A hidden page isn't found on your live site. Pages you made only.
Who can see this pageEveryone, Signed-in families or Members only. Pages you made only. See the next section.
Delete pageAsks "Delete “[page]”? It comes off your site when you publish. You can bring it back from Version history." Pages you made only.

Changes in this panel are part of your draft. Families see them after you select Publish. (The In menu switch on the Pages tab is the exception: it saves live.) See Publish, schedule and restore versions.

Addresses the site already uses. Some addresses belong to the site itself, such as classes, instructors, contact, services, shop, portal, account, sign-in and manage. If you type one, the editor says it "is already used by the site itself". Pick another.

Changing an address or deleting a page. Once you publish, the old address stops working. If families have it saved or you've shared it, send it to a page that still exists under Old addresses on Website › Domain. See Connect your own domain.

Who can see this page

Pages you made can be open to everyone or kept for some families. Your homepage and the automatic pages are always open to everyone.

  1. In the editor, open the page and choose Page settings… from the page menu (1).
  2. Under Who can see this page (2), choose who can open it.
  3. Optionally, write what Everyone else sees, and turn Show a lock beside it in the menu on or off.
  4. Select Publish.

ChoiceWho can open it
Everyone"Anyone on the internet, and search engines."
Signed-in families"Anyone who signs in to [your organization]’s site. A Famlo account is free, so this keeps the page off search engines and away from passers-by. It isn’t private."
Members onlyYour members and your team. The panel says how many families can open it today, or "No families are members yet, so only your team can open it."
warning

"Until you publish, this page is public. Anything it showed while public may already have been saved or shared." The limit starts when you publish. Keep anything private off the page until then.

Who counts as a member

PersonCan open a Members only page?
The organization's ownerYes
Staff with access to any part of your consoleYes
Staff set to Profile onlyNo, not by being on your Staff page
Families, if you don't charge membership duesYes, if they're on your roster (People › Parents)
Families, if you charge membership duesYes, while their membership is active or a free membership you gave is still running
A family whose dues payment failedNo, until they update their card

Membership counts for your organization only. A family's membership with another organization doesn't open your pages. To set up dues, see Membership dues.

What families who can't open it see

They see the page's name, a Members only or Signed-in families badge, and your Everyone else sees line ("A line or two under the page’s name … Nothing else on the page is shown."), up to 200 characters. If you leave it blank, they see "This page is for [your organization] members." or "This page is for families signed in to [your organization]."

  • On a Signed-in families page, they get Sign in.
  • On a Members only page, they get a way to sign in and, if you charge dues, a card to join, or Ask [your organization] about joining if you don't.
  • A family whose dues payment failed sees Update your card.

Families who can open the page see a strip above it saying why, such as "Member · Only [your organization] members can see this page". Their Parent portal lists the pages they can open under Member pages. See Members-only pages and memberships on a website for the family's side.

To check the teaser, select Preview as a visitor ↗ in the panel. In the editor itself, a restricted page carries a note such as "Members only · families who can’t open it see the teaser".

The lock, search engines and files

  • Show a lock beside it in the menu puts a lock next to the page's name in your menu. "Everyone sees the lock, members too." It only matters when the page is in the menu.
  • Search engines are asked not to list a Signed-in families or Members only page.
  • "Once you publish, its photos and files are sent only to people who can open it." Each time someone opens one, Famlo checks they can still open the page, and the file's link stops working after five minutes, so a forwarded link doesn't open it.
  • "A family who stops being a member sees the teaser the next time they visit."

Troubleshooting

I added a page, but it isn't on my site. New pages start hidden. Open Page settings…, turn on Show this page on your site, then select Publish.

A page is switched into the menu, but it isn't in my site's menu. The menu shows only pages that are on your site, so check Show this page on your site and publish. The Instructors page stays out of the menu while nobody is shown on it.

I don't see Who can see this page. It's only on pages you made. Your homepage, Classes and Instructors pages are always open to everyone.

A member says they can't open a members-only page. Check that they're signed in to your site with the Famlo account that's on your roster or holds the membership. A family whose dues payment failed can't open it until they update their card. A staff member set to Profile only can't open it either.

I changed the menu order, but my site looks the same. Menu changes reach your live site within a few minutes. Refresh the page after that.
