Set up your website
Website setup walks you through five short steps: pick a look, add your logo and colors, choose a welcome photo, say how families reach you, then publish. It takes about five minutes. Your classes, teachers and reviews are already on the site, so you only add what makes it yours. You need the Website plan and Edit settings on the School settings line, which Owners and Co-leaders have.
Start website setup
- Open Website in the console. You land on the Pages tab.
- Find the Set up your website · about 5 minutes card beside your page list (under it on a phone).
- Select Start (1).
Setup is never forced on you. You can build your site in the on-page editor instead, or come back to setup at any time.
The welcome screen
The welcome screen, Let’s build your website, shows two lists before you begin.
- What you’ll need: your logo ("No logo yet? We’ll use your name."), one good photo, your phone, address and hours, and social links if you want them.
- Already done for you: your Classes, seats and prices, Teachers and bios, Reviews from families, and Booking and checkout, with a count or Ready for each. If one shows None yet, the link beside it (Add a class, Add a teacher, See reviews or Set up payments) opens that part of the console in a new tab. These update on your site by themselves when you change them in Famlo.
Select Start with a look to begin, or I’ll do this later to go back to Website.
The five steps
Each step saves as you go, and the top bar says Saved. On a computer, a Live preview of your homepage sits beside each step, with buttons to see it at desktop, tablet and phone size. Nothing changes for families until you publish.
The steps across the top (1) show where you are. Select any of them to move to that step. Save and exit (2) keeps your progress.
- Look. Pick one of ten looks, or Original (the Famlo design). The chips above the cards (Co-op, Microschool, Nature and more) filter them. Full preview opens your own site drawn in that look in a new tab. Select Use and the look's name to carry on. If you already chose colors of your own, Famlo asks whether to use the new look's own colors or Keep my colors.
- Logo & colors. Select Upload a logo (PNG, JPG, WEBP or SVG, up to 2 MB). Famlo then suggests up to three color sets marked From your logo. You can also pick one of the look's own palettes, or Choose my own colors (Background, Text, Accent, Soft panels, and Second accent on every look except Original). If your logo already spells out your name, tick My logo already says our name (hide the name next to it). Choose a Font pairing last. Original has Headings font and Body font instead.
- Photos. Choose Your welcome photo, the first thing families see. Pick one under From your classes, or Upload your own (PNG, JPG or WEBP, up to 10 MB). Kids busy doing something, faces in good light, in landscape, work best.
- Details. Under How families reach you, enter the Phone, Email, Address and Hours shown in your header, footer and Contact page. The first time, these are filled in from your Famlo listing, so remove anything you don't want public. Tick We meet in different places (show the town only) to hide your street address. Under Social links (optional), add Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
- Publish. Check and publish shows your web address and what your site still needs. Select Publish my site (see the next section).
Select Continue at the bottom of each step to move on, or Back to return to the one before. On a phone, the step shows as "2 of 5" at the top, and Preview my site opens the preview.
The logo you add here is your website's logo. It doesn't change the logo on your Famlo listing.
Check and publish
The last step has up to three parts.
- Your web address. Your site goes online at a web address you own, like yourcoop.org. There is no free famlo.co address for it. With no address yet, select Connect a domain I own. With one, Check your domain opens the Domain tab in a new tab. See Connect your own domain.
- Before you publish. The readiness checklist (see The Your website checklist), with a link beside each item. "You can publish now and finish the rest later."
- Also going live. If anyone on your team changed anything in the on-page editor that isn't published yet, it's listed here. Those changes publish with your setup.
Select Publish my site. The last screen depends on your address:
| Your web address | What you see |
|---|---|
| Connected | Your website is live, with your address, Copy, Open my site, Share and a QR code to "Print the QR code for your sign-in table or flyers." |
| Still connecting | Your website is published. "It goes online as soon as" your address connects, with Check your domain. |
| None yet | Your website is published. "It goes online when you connect your own web address", with Connect your web address. |
Under What’s next, Edit your homepage and Add a page open the on-page editor. Back to Website returns to the console.
Save and exit, and running setup again
Save and exit in the top bar saves the step you're on and returns you to Website: "Your setup is saved. Pick up where you left off any time." Nothing is live yet.
To pick up again, select Continue setup on the Set up your website card. The welcome screen offers Continue where you left off with the step's name, or Start again from the look.
Once you've published through setup, the card is replaced by Run website setup again under the checklist on the Pages tab. It walks the same five steps, starting from your current look, logo, photo and details. Nothing changes for families until you select Publish my site again.
The Your website checklist
The checklist shows what your site still needs, read from your real data. It's advice only and never stops you publishing. You'll find it on the Pages tab of Website and in the Before you publish part of the last step.
| Done | Still to do |
|---|---|
| Your logo | Add your logo |
| Look: and your look's name | Pick a look |
| A welcome photo on your homepage | Add a welcome photo |
| Your homepage shows your classes | Show your classes on your homepage |
| The number of classes families can book | Add a class |
| The number of teachers on your site | Show a teacher on your site |
| How families reach you | Add a phone number or email |
| Online at and your address | Connect your own web address |
| Spanish written for every published page (only if your site offers Spanish) | Write the Spanish for a page |
| Your latest changes are live | You have changes that aren't live yet |
On the Pages tab, the card changes as you go:
- Before setup, the Set up your website card holds the list under What your site still needs, with a count of how many are done.
- After setup, the card is headed Your website with the count, and lists only what's still open. A link such as Show the 3 done opens the rest.
- When everything is done, the card reads Everything your site needs is in place. Select Show list to see it all.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Website in the console. Website shows only when your organization has the Website plan (or already has a site) and you have Edit settings on the School settings line. See Famlo plans.
A banner says "Someone else changed your website just now. We’ve reloaded it." Someone else on your team saved a change to your website while you were working. The step reloads with the latest version. Check it, and make your last change again if it's missing.
My class photos don't show under From your classes. "Your classes don’t have photos yet." Upload one instead, or add photos to a class and come back to this step.
My photo is too big. Photos can be up to 10 MB. Pick a smaller photo, or one of your class photos. Logos can be up to 2 MB.
Publishing says "Your site couldn’t be published yet:" The list under it names what needs fixing, with the page and section where it is. Fix it in the on-page editor, then come back to the Publish step.
Publishing says "Another publish is running. Try again in a moment." Someone else on your team is publishing. Wait a moment and select Publish my site again.
I published, but my site isn't online. Your site needs a web address you own. See Connect your own domain and Domain troubleshooting.
